What Did Santa Bring?

Santa was generous with kitchen-related gifts this year:

I can’t wait to christen the Staub deep oven - the color is even prettier in person and it’s just the right size for cooking for two.

What’s this phenomenon? Been cooking for 8 since college

What a haul!

What a lovely gift. Cornish saffron buns would be a good use. They’re delicious with a cuppa tea.

I have that spatula. It works very well.

Such as these? I also received saffron for Christmas. I rarely cook with it. The buns look good!

.

When I was initially gifted a SV, it was a Joule, which I returned immediately and got the Anova for precisely the above reason. The Joule could NOT be set by hand. So if Joule goes out of business and stops supporting the app? I have a $50 paperweight.

Frankly, I don’t want ANY of my appliances which aren’t displaying media to be ‘smart’ or ‘connected’ at all. I want a panel with buttons on the front, a power switch, and ideally, a couple of screws I can remove to get at the innards, should it ever fail.

My recipe is similar, but includes some candied peel and leaves out the cinnamon. I’m sure there are variations, but the basics look the same.

As some of you know, I have a thing for kitchen knives.

This year Santa, with some help from my lovely wife. Brought me a Masashi Yamamoto gyuto in blue#1 steel.

For me. It’s a real beauty :slightly_smiling_face:

I also received a spatula like that, and then the next day saw it on a cooking channel (America’s Test Kitchen?). Maybe a new craze?

Shape looks like it would be great for smaller omelettes, and the slots are useful very often for lots of things. Congrats on the haul, more generally!

I forgot to mention it before because it disappeared so quickly. My oldest and dearest friends and I have developed a ritual. I make fruitcake for them, and they give me a Harbison cheese. Mmmmmm.

That’s so pretty I’d almost be reluctant to use it. I’d want to make a special display for it or something.

Wow, the handle of the knife the matching colour with the chop board, what a thoughtful gift!

Beautiful. Could you ever envision this being your everyday knife?

I must confess to coveting that beautiful Staub color…cabinets already full with old LeCreuset colors, however!

I’ve made lussekatter with saffron, too.

I also bought myself saffron crocuses which will arrive in the mail.

I’m intrigued by the saffron buns. When I resume baking (after the holidays), I’m going to give them a try.

This Ottolenghi poached pear recipe with saffron and cardamom is nice, too. I have made variations of it a dozen times. The pears take on a golden hue.

Where do you buy your saffron? I looked at some on amazon, but the 1-star reviews are discouraging.

I don’t believe in Santa, so I took things into my own hands

This gorgeous set of cooking utensils in fire truck red — even though it appears now that the black plastic study was flawed in several ways :woman_shrugging:t2:

I am also waiting for a garlic press,

a citrus press I discovered in our Philly pad & learned to absolutely love,

and a red silicon wire whisk bc the set didn’t come with one.
