What Did Santa Bring?

I made a request a couple of years ago to NOT receive random cookbooks for Christmas (the books were never to my taste) and fortunately that request has stuck. I still get food-related gifts, though. This year:

Two mini Le Creuset cocottes in shiny black (!)

A biiiiig jar of local honey from my brother who lives in Georgia (the honey he gifts me is always really, really good)

A light for grilling at night.

I think that’s all the food-related things I received. I gifted my other brother an enormous brisket and a rack of pork ribs from Snake River Farms; he was pleased.

Ooh. What brand/model? I have a Weber top-o-the-line gas grill, which has a POS light that’s never worked. I like the idea of it actuating when the lid’s lifted, but I’d rather it be brighter and work…

That the one little comment was remembered and acted upon is one of my favorite ways people say ILY.

I like Firelli. I think it has a subtle smoky flavor that’s nice.

I use a cheap battery powered headlamp (Costco, but abundant on Amazon) which I really like because it’s always pointing where I’m looking, since it’s attached to my coconut.

We use a cheap, bendable-neck lamp for grilling on the BGE at night, but I like your idea of a headlamp.

Received an Anova Sous Vide circulator to replace my Joule that bit the dust a few weeks ago. Very happy to receive the unit, which can be set by hand, but a bit disappointed that Anova charges $9.99 a year to get their app so I can control the unit on my phone and access cook times/temps. Joule’s was free.

But Musky also got an extra $200 billion from $anta :sob:

Saffron is great with other rice dishes like paella, tahdig, or biryani, and it’s also a nice addition to curries. For sweet stuff try ice cream, pudding, or panna cotta.

I love plain saffron rice. We usually have it with stir fried snow peas and a pork tenderloin glazed with Dijon and plum jam, a favorite twenty minute dinner. It would make an amazing rice pudding.
