I save this every time @MunchkinRedux posts it, and then forget to make it.
Does anyone have an effective way to save the remaining wonton wrappers for later use?

Good idea - I have plenty of both. I’ve made this a few times with storebought wonton wrappers (@saregama = take note), but was never happy with how they stuck together on the plate once removed from the bath.
This next time I’m going to make my own wrappers - the same ones I use for making wontons - and hope for a more palatable result.
I should add this is a delicious recipe - and I would encourage anyone curious about it to make it.
I do freeze them, but the outcome isn’t great. If you use them up quickly it’s OK, but if they’re in the freezer too long they dry out.
Hello everyone. It is an absolutely beautiful end to the week. It started out gloomy and rainy on back-to-work Tuesday so I dug up a warmer jacket to wear for my walk to work. But I hadn’t taken out hats, mitts, etc. so I walked to work with bare hands. (Thankfully no hat or scarf is needed yet.) I figured that since I am a hearty Canadian I won’t need them - hahaha! My hands were freezing by the time I got home on Tuesday afternoon. We had a high temperature of 9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday but it will be going up to 16 or 17 today. I only needed a windbreaker when I went out to pick up lunch earlier and no I did not need my gloves today! I will have to run up to the Italian grocer after work today to pick up some missing ingredients for the weekend and I am looking forward to the half hour walk there since I have a possibility of two nice walking routes to get there. I will probably walk up one street to get there then down the other to get home.
Onto my menus for this week:
Today: My take out lunch was spaghetti with creamy pesto sauce and chicken so dinner tonight will be an autumn style salad with caesar dressing. It’s a recipe from one of my Sunset cookbooks (“Fresh ways with salads”) and includes broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. The recipe also calls for tomatoes and mushrooms which I don’t have but I have a ton of other veggies in the fridge so I’m sure I can find two other veggies to use
Saturday; Clean out the fridge day. I was hoping it could wait one more week since I’m getting my last CSA on Thursday but I can’t stand the clutter in there anymore. We have also been advised to bring a shopping cart/car/whatever in anticipation of lots of veggies. Apparently they will be giving us extras. In previous years we’ve gotten one 10 lb bag of something. One year it was potatoes, one year beets, one year onions, etc. so I will need to make space in my fridge. Dinner will be a risotto with leeks and sundried tomatoes.
Sunday: I will be going to a late afternoon movie (“The Outrun” with Saoirse Ronan) with one of my meetup groups so we will be going out for nibbles and drinks after so we can discuss the movie.
Monday: I had planned on having a potato bean tomato stew for dinner to finish up one field tomato in the fridge. It’s been sitting in the fridge for awhile and I’m not sure if it’s good anymore. I will find out when I clean out the fridge tomorrow and if the tomato has perished I will find something else to make.
Tuesday: Linguine with broccoli and carrots.
Wednesday: One serving of masoor dal I have left in the freezer, probably rice pilaf.
Thursday: Last CSA pickup day Chicken cacciatore for dinner.
Have a lovely week everyone. I hope it’s nice where you are.
Hi, all! Cooking for 2 back in Chattanooga after a lovely few days in St. Louis seeing friends. Did a little cooking but mostly indulged in takeout and restaurants as well as lots of lovely conversation.
Plans for the upcoming week:
Friday, October 18 (today): Burnt honey carrot and tahini soup from Family
Breakfast: Fruity rosemary bread
Saturday: Dinner party with DH’s work colleagues. White bean dip with veggies, chicken cutlets, butternut squash risotto, green salad, coconut cake.
Sunday: Rouladen (braised beef rolls; the German version of Braciole) and potatoes, maybe some Brussels sprouts; DH should be thrilled
Monday: Pita pizzas
Tuesday-Thursday: Work our way though all the leftovers
Friday: Pasta with fish cakes, very similar to the Ottolenghi recipe Munchkin is using
Have a great week, everyone! Happy cooking!
No, but they are tasty cut into ribbons and deep fried.
Hi everyone
I’ve come to the conclusion that my cooking mojo didn’t make it home with me, so waiting for it to get back from extended travels, lol.
The weather here has been all over the place, with sunny but cool days that are very pleasant for walking around, but nights that have dropped to winter temperatures. Wardrobe and menu planning have been a bit tricky.
I’m still eating out more than I’d like to as I catch up with various friends, but that will settle down eventually.
Some actuals for the past week plus:
— Dinner with friends: I made the appetizer (sardines rillettes – good even if you don’t like sardines!) & dessert (rum chocolate chunk brownies), they made chicken stew, sauteed shrimp, and salad.
— Quick Curry noodles with chicken and broccoli, using rotisserie chicken and leftover steamed broccoli.
— Rotisserie chicken, steamed broccoli.
— Salmon burgers from COTM NYT — really good! Thanks to @MunchkinRedux for the rec.
— Leftover mujadara with butter-roasted salmon (also COTM NYT)
— Spanish dinner out with a friend
— Beef rendang and Sichuan salads I picked up in Flushing
— Modern-ish Indian food out with visiting friends
I finally did a quick freezer inventory, which is just as well, because it turns out I still have a bunch of things to use up in there.
Ideas for the coming week:
— Vietnamese grilled pork – found marinade in the freezer, woot! Will add slaw and rice. Pork and slaw from COTM Andrea Nguyen / VFAD.
— Sushi bowls – Fish tbd (Brown butter scallops or Wasabi butter roasted salmon), avocado, snow pea salad
— Fish chowder for DOTQ from COTM NYT using a suggestion from comments to add lemongrass and coconut milk
— Salmon burgers or Fish cakes again with rice & some green veg, or maybe Arroz Verde
Wish list:
— Shiu mai burgers – have been obsessing over these since I came across them
— Pakistani pot roast / pasanday – would also motivate me to bake some crusty bread
— Soy sauce chicken – would love to get closer to the Chinatown version.
.
Made “nutella” energy balls, almond fudge (badam katri / katli), and another Indian sweet for Diwali (magaj / gram flour fudge) to send my nephew and my friend’s daughter in their care packages, which I FINALLY sent off after excessively overthinking them haha.
Next project is to think about what I want to make for Diwali with friends – 1 app, 1 main, 1 dessert for my friend’s party most likely.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Theatrecipe for shiu mai burger patties is so appealing!
Hi everyone, it’s been an eventful couple weeks in good ways and bad. I had a wonderful time with my friend in Chicago. But a close friend died last night - not unexpectedly, but it’s still very sad. I am off to Italy on Monday - the plan was to celebrate making it through until Lulu went off to college; it is turning out to also be a way to get away from the stress of the election, and to mourn my friend. I have voted and will be back for election day. Not as much cooking as usual. LLD has been a real prince in doing a bit extra while I worried and visited my friend, and I am feeling very appreciative of that. Anyway, here are some things we cooked in the past two weeks:
Penne with blue cheese, endive, and walnuts (did anyone else catch Deb Perlman saying penne is the worst kind of pasta?? I was shocked and strongly disagree.)
LLD made tuna steaks, roasted potatoes, salad
He cooked again: filet mignon, roasted Brussels sprouts, tater tots
A Nigella dinner: dragon wings, carrot and peanut salad, rice
Roasted shrimp with broccoli, rolls
Eggs kejriwal (NYT), sliced bell peppers
I baked German chocolate cookies (also NYT) and sent half off to Lulu. If any last before I leave town it’ll be a miracle.
Wishing you all a wonderful week.
So very sorry for your loss.
The trip sounds like a welcome salve – where will you be going?
I’m really sorry to hear that. Been there and it still really hurts even when you know it’s coming. Sending you love and wishes for comfort and rest.
Keeping it simple for dinner because the rest of my life is definitely not. Busy, busy…
For two adults in San Diego:
Breakfasts: Allowed a local bakery to provide breakfast last week. Will make scones this week.
S (tonight): Takeout - Smoked gouda mac-n-cheese from the nearby pub.
Su: TJ’s carnitas, all the fixings. Delayed for several weeks by various complications, so let’s hope it happens this time.
M: Fish sandwiches, fruit on the side - seafood
T: Carnitas ramen with veggies - soup
W: TJs unexpected cheddar chicken sausage, home fries, creamed spinach
R: Pizza based on https://whatsgabycooking.com/zucchini-cacio-e-pepe-pizza/, salad - vegetarian
F: Pasta with bolognese sauce
Have a good week!
Thank you and Christina.
I will be mostly in Naples, with a few days/nights in Ischia.
Eat some Bruschetta for me! Had delicious ones there twice! Hilltop-type restaurant.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Here’s hoping your time in Italy will be healing
So sorry to hear this sad news. I hope your trip will bring some solace. I’m glad LLD stepped up to help. Sounds like you had some delicious meals together and you’ll have more in Italy! Take care.
Hi all, cooking with 1.5 hands (lefty is trapped in a plastic bag for kitchen activities) for three in Boston. Still trying to keep things simple.
Sun: pork chops with apples and sweet potatoes (this but chops instead of tenderloin)
Mon: burgers, chips, green beans
Tues: nachos with the last of the pulled pork
Weds: bbq meatballs, cheese grits
Thurs: was supposed to be kung pao chicken but I might be going out, so guys will be on their own and the kpc will get bumped to Friday
Actuals for Oct 14 week. I cooked for 2 in MN and and we enjoyed weekend meals cooked by niece & her husband in WI. We had spectacularly warm weather for the weekend family & friends get-together to celebrate grand-niece/nephew twins first birthday. My youngest sister & her husband had to stay home, last-minute, due to illness but the rest of us showed up (and between us ate enough extra to cover the difference). Good time, but the young family wore us out. We came home to MN after lunch Sunday and the crew that stayed went out to an apple orchard.
Mon: Pizza, spinach salad
Tues: Rotel/black bean /Chicken and brown rice, red grapes, mixed fresh fruit.
Wed: (commercial) seafood stuffing in salmon fillet, mac & cheese, Broccoli/Raisin salad, spinach/Italian mix greens salad, tomatoes.
Thurs: leftovers clear out - Rotel/ black beans chicken and rice, mango chicken curry over wild rice, spinach/Italian greens salad
Fri: In WI – chili & cornbread, veggie soup, tossed salad. Bakery pumpkin cookies dessert.
Sat: In WI – Lunchtime family & friends party - pulled BBQ chicken sliders, veggies & dip, fresh fruit tray, chips & dip, birthday cake & cupcakes, addictive peanuts/chocolate/pb stuffed pretzels trail mix snacks, Dinner - family cookout - hot dogs, bratwurst & smores over campfire at their wooded acreage land (future home site)
Sun -dinner back home in MN - Gyros on Naan bread w/ lettuce, tomatoes, sliced olives & cucumber sauce
I think I’ll make a kale-free Zuppa Toscana tonight [Monday]. Thanks for the inspiration.
(On second thought, cooked kale on the side, to add to our bowls , for the 2 of us who can eat it)
Sun:
Leftover blade pot roast from Thu was turned into beef goulash soup with Hungarian egg drop dumplings, using Gulasch spice blend from Munich and some paprika from a Serbian deli in the burbs of Toronto.
Mon: Zuppa Toscana, kale on the side
Tue: maybe take-out pizza
Wed: lemon oregano chicken thighs, and I’m craving gnocchi.
Thu: maybe leftovers.
Will probably make tuna casserole for Fri.
Fri: tuna casserole
Sat: ribeye
Still dining solo had to slow down and stop cooking and KISS.
Saturday I made hamburg stroganoff with lots of mushrooms and egg noodles. Peas from Aldi freezer.
Sunday repeat
Monday repeat
Tuesday second half of zucchini lasagna and spinach
Wednesday haddock, hash browns and spinach
Thursday tbd and bok choy
Friday Cheeseburger
I have had visitors… mice … eating the wires in my car and trying to get in the house.and getting the dogs REALLY excited. I have a wonderful animal control person who has been here Sunday and Monday and I was so grateful for him and my ready made dinner.
