I’ll be there for two weeks with a few small side trips to Kep/Kampot.
Any must-eat recommendations in PP?
I’ve done a bit of research and will post an eating review upon my return, but want to know if the group has any recommendations.

We didn’t stay there very long time, since we had stomach problem accumulating from Siam Reap and Battambang, we missed some meals to let stomach rest. One of the best meal we had:
Our first dinner in Phnom Penh. Romdeng is a training school for street children to learn a trade.
Coconut milk and lime shake - refreshing for a hot day!

Crispy sticky rice cakes stuffed with peanuts, black mushrooms and yellow beans served with palm wine galangal dip

Depending what you expect, it is not a resort city, we wanted to visit a small city to see how real people live, we like the street food scene at Battambang. Phnom Sampov worth a visit.
You can read some of my restaurant reviews:
The night market at the water front in Battambang is something not to miss. Street food are much more interesting in variety than in Siem Reap. You can see real locals eating at the stands. It is located not far from the Central market, on the 2 banks of the Stung Sangker River.

Rice cake roll - Highly recommended, if you could located this guy, his stand was quite popular. Very simple food, a type of rice pancake, heated up with butter, condensed milk, egg…mixed in everything and …
Jaan Bai, located in the main streets in the centre of Battambang, not too far from the central market. A modern style café used seasonal produce from local farmers, neighbouring markets or even the chef’s garden. On their menu they stressed that no MSG were used. Menu is basically Khmer cooking with a few Thai dishes.

Nary Kitchen is a family owned restaurant operated by a native couple coming from Kampot. The wife is the chef and husband occupies the service. It is located in a quiet street that is not brightly lit at night, from a distance we thought the place was not open.
We ordered from what was proposed in the cooking lessons menu to test the food.

Kep/Kampot
I liked Mr. Mab in Kep
We planned a day trip at Kep from our base in Kampot. We arrived at Kep in the late morning with a motorbike.
The main restaurant of Mr. Mab was situated at a resort hotel in Kep, I was glad to find they still had a pop-up restaurant at the market. It was a few years that Mab has relocated his business from Phnom Penh to Kep.

Not to miss in Kampot, the pepper farms. Food was alright there, nothing very exciting, maybe it’s a city only for tourists? Food in Kep was definitely better.
Technically speaking Sothy’s Organic Pepper Farm is located in Kep, or the borderline between Kampot and Kep. Kampot pepper has a Protected Geographical Indication status, it is world famous for its superior and complex taste. I did a research back at France, the same pepper we found at $40 a kilo can easily reached $130/kg here.

Just saw Ros Rotanak aka Chef Nak featured on the Nat Geo channel last night. Certainly worth a try.
