New Year's Eve and Day foods

We usually do beans, pork, and greens here, which I understand are considered regulars in a variety of cultures.

The beans for me are the most New Years specific for me, at least in the form of black eyed peas.

Right now I am still scrolling through my list of “hoppin John” salad recipes. I would love for it to include some Dungeness crab.

Here’s a thread about black eyed pea recipes.

I’m having shrimp bisque for New Years Eve, I made the stock today from shrimp and crab shells. New Years Day will be black eyed peas, ham and collards.

my last Vasilopita reply before making one. This recipe calls for 3 cups of flour and 3 eggs, which works for me today.

Most of the other bread-type Vasilopita recipes, an enriched bread made with yeast, call for 4.5 cups of flour or even 7 cups of flour.

Beautiful bread! I’m sure it tastes as good as it looks! Happy NYE!

Happy NYE, Lambchop!

Thank you!

The darker one was cooking more slowly and I overbaked it a bit, even with it covered in foil, in an effort to get the internal temp to 190. I initially was going to give one to the neighbours but I think I might keep both and use the overbaked one for trifle or bread pudding.

That sounds like a good plan, especially the bread pudding. And of course it makes lovely toast and French toast too. Enjoy!
