I recommend you check out the 196
Flavors site:
as well as our own HO Cuisines of the Quarter threads.
This is a reference thread to provide easy access to past threads for the Cuisine of the Quarter project.
This also provides a handy way to see what has been done when we are making suggestions for future quarters!
Let’s keep this as a reference list. Please add discussions to the corresponding threads regarding nominations, votes or cooking from by quarter.
Thanks!
Starting a master list for DOTQ, by popular demand!
This month’s Cuisine of the Quarter MAHARASHTRIAN - Winter 2023 (Jan-Mar) Cuisine of the Quarter
I am currently most interested in Turkish , Georgian , British , Japanese , Burmese and Mexican foods. There are dozens of home cooks on this site who are very interested in many cuisines.
My current favourite cultural dishes are
Dumplings
Stuffed grape leaves
Cheese pies (tiropita, khachapuri)
Meat pies (Tourtière, empanadas, brik)
Spinach pies
Vegetable soups (shchi, borscht)
Salads (Olivye, Rossoli, Waldorf, Watergate )
The votes have been counted and the Vikings won by a nose! SCANDINAVIAN is our Cuisine of the Quarter this Spring. I don’t know much about the food of the cold north (beyond pickled herring and a few baked treats), so I look forward to learning along with you. Skål!
What do you typically order for takeout?
These are my main takeout go-tos
Chinese
I tend to get Cantonese takeout.
My typical order might be Hot & Sour or Won Ton Soup, egg rolls or spring rolls, Tai Dop Voy, beef with Chinese Greens, some sort of fried noodle
Pizza
Usually a pepperoni/mushroom/ pepper Deluze is for a group, or a takeout slice (working my way through all the slices at Eataly) for myself if I’m getting takeout for one
Middle Eastern
Fried eggplant, fried garlic tomatoes …
We’ve got a whole quarter of TACO Tuesdays to look forward to, HOs! This quarter’s DOTQ is an almost universal favorite and an incredibly versatile meal or snack. I look forward to reading about how you HOs taco!
Clearly you HOs have grilling on the brain, because KEBABS were our big winner for this quarter’s DOTQ. Thank you all for your participation - let’s get those skewers out!
My region’s contribution to Culinaria is the Hawaiian pizza, invented by a Greek immigrant living in Chatham, Ontario,
Canada.
