Correction: National Burrito Day is April 3d, not 4th (first Thursday in April). But the more important question is why does the burrito only get one day a year, when the taco gets a day every week? Stuff like that keeps me awake at night!

I think Id/ Eid celebrations may be extending till tomorrow, though they started yesterday.

Easter and Passover Inspiration

What are you planning to make, order and/or eat this Easter and/or Passover? I haven’t figured out what to make for Western Easter next weekend . I will make lamb and spanakopita, and Easter bread, on Greek / Orthodox Easter (April 24th this year). Thinking about stuffed grape leaves with avgolemono sauce, as well. This Easter bread/ Tsoureki Muffin recipe worked well for me.

Passover Is Here (Almost) (also food allergies)

Forget the crocuses, forget March 21, … you know spring is here when the Passover food is on display. Just to remind those of you with allergies/avoidances that it’s time to stock up on all that soy-free stuff, and gluten-free stuff, since the use of wheat is severely limited. And of course, the Coca-Cola (and other things) are made with real sugar, not corn sweeteners. Make sure the Coca-Cola is labeled “Kosher for Passover” or “KP”. I already have tickets to a 4/20 showing of Sinners (new horror movie directed by Ryan Coogler starring Michael B. Jordan) and I’m pretty sure there will be a rather indulgent lunch before hand. Possibly Korean fried chicken, or a poke bowl.

I had completely forgotten today was NBD, but coincidentally Mrs. ricepad and I tried a new (to us) Mexican joint while we were out running errands today. She had a burrito mojado, while I ordered quesabirria tacos. I was a little surprised when the server gave me a choice of meat, between beef and goat! Naturally, I wanted chivo, especially at no extra cost.
