What's for lunch (2026)

I prepared the last of the corn on the cob for Sunshine’s lunch, today. A nice light lunch – hoping it goes on sale again, soon.

Welcome to HO!

If you’d like to tell us a bit about yourself, we got a thread for that here :slightly_smiling_face:

Arancini with mozzarella, salad with vinaigrette.
Raspberry crostata #2, this has flaked almonds added and crème fraîche along side.

A terribly late lunch, even for my standards. Spent the better part of the day in the hospital with my boo until he was all clear & told me to get. some. food!!!

Which proved more difficult than expected. The cute Farmhouse cafe on campus wouldn’t let me order the desired Cubano ahead online, and all I could see in the vicinity of our hotel was pretty much every single North American FF / fast casual chain under the sun

NO THANK YOU.

As luck would have it, the nearby mall is home to a spiffy new dumpling place with 3 different kinds of XLB, so dumplings it was. I was told the XLB would take about 20 min, so I had MOAR DUMPLINGS as an app — i.e. wontons in spicy peanut sauce with chile oil, to which I added… more chile oil.

XLB were quite lovely as well: delicate skins, of which only one tore while being maneuvered onto the spoon, and a juicy, flavorful filling.

We’re going back for dinner once I pick my dude up from the recovery unit. BYOB, too!

Is the BF ok?

I haven’t spoken to him recently. Too busy with my husband

I’m from Eastern Europe.
Into common home cooking and anything meat or grill related. And my best food experiences is a proper BBQ with friends.

Nice. I’m from Western Europe and also enjoy grilled meats.

Bet you’ll like the discussions here

A smashingly delicious, meaty, beefy, greasy, cheesy double smashburger from a very popular creamery on our way home.

If there is a better way to celebrate a heart procedure, I don’t wanna know about it. The beef tallow fries were calling our name, too, but we thought it might just be too much food., plus another $5.49.

Next time, when the weather is better & we’re not huddled in the car. They have excellent sundaes as well

I made a test batch of Potato Cakes and served for lunch. Sunshine liked them and said they would make a nice dinner if they had some chopped bacon in them. So, I’ll see if I can find some bacon on sale or clearance.

*** Side Note *** Thank you to everyone in the “Tracking Expenses” thread for ideas and recipes.

Surprisingly (to me) - packets of (already cooked) real bacon pieces in the salad dressings/croutons area are more affordable than raw bacon at my store. Easy to add to something like these potato cakes.

I’ll look for them next time I’m in the grocery store.

Thanks…

Made a big batch of stewed vegetables yesterday, heavy on the eggplant + stuff that needed using up like carrot, zucchini and peppers. Lots of fresh garlic and good EVOO.
Needed a light lunch today, so I had some on a piece of toasted cereali bread, going to a function with 30 chefs including my ex boss. Should be fun, free food and booze is always a good time.

Breadbelly https://www.breadbellysf.com up at Clement Street is one if our favorite spots in the city for a lunch. More recently they opened a second location in Dogpatch which is much easier for us to reach. It’s located in the Pier 70 building and also contains their production facility which means that their selection is even better. Ample seating and parking make this a really nice little lunch place

Chicken Cutlet Salad - Taiwanese-style fried chicken cutlet, shredded salad mix, creamy sesame and fish sauce dressing, mint, cilantro, crunchy wonton chips, crispy shallots

Biscuit Smash - Buttermilk biscuit, black pepper sausage patty, scallion omelette, scallion chimichurri, new school american cheese

Kaya bun and Guava Chocolate Milk - guava, Valhrona chocolate, cacao, malted milk, muscovado
