What's for lunch? (2025)

Those cherries are so good and I pitted enough for another dessert tomorrow!

A lunch I’ve been looking forward to much longer than anticipated, as my PIC’s conference went well past 1:30pm. I even had time to scoot over to the nearest Weis market to check if maybe, just maybe they still carry our beloved Herdez avo hot sauce. They do not; it seems to have disappeared from the shelves at both Weis & Giant. Feh!

Anywhos, still delish: carnitas & barbacoa tacos leftover from our Taco Tuesday lunch, pimped with fresh chopped onion, MOAR cilantro, pickled jalapeños, hot sauce.

If you have a Walmart or Target, they supposedly carry it. ETA: Of course, there are various reasons I try to avoid both stores.

Same.

My problem is that Walmart is the only place near me that sells Barilla mini penne. (I know, I know - not your favorite pasta shape! ) So I braved it a couple of weekends ago and bought 4 boxes. LOL

The Barilla site has a product locator. If it is accurate, it says that the Market Basket in Billerica, Reading, Burlington and Woburn has it, as well as MacKinnon’s in Everett. I suppose you could call ahead and check. I feel like I have seen it in the Star or Hannaford near me (Waltham). Just a thought!

I have to head “uptown” for a few things — Aldi for shitz n giggles, plus the Korean market is getting their delivery from the big city today & I’m hoping to score a loaf of Japanese milk bread, so I’ll also stop in at Wegmans. Pretty sure that’s where we got it last time

I had tried that locator and it wasn’t coming up - then again, I think I searched on my phone, so perhaps I missed it by fat fingering the locations. LOL The MB in Reading is near where I get my hair cut and the Woburn store is passed on a regular basis. So I can hit up those two once I get through these 4 boxes. LOL

I just checked it out - it says the MB by me in the Oakdale Mall in Tewksbury has it. NO, IT DOESN’T! LOL So yeah - calling ahead will be required. Looks like MB in Wilmington is also listed.

The Avocado Hot Sauce has a glow-in-the-dark green - what did they add to that ?

The one with lime or tomatillo flavor ?
(But just looked it up, it’s some blue and yellow artificial coloring)

That’s what makes it so delicious :yum:

And change you to a smurf

On a more serious note - I don’t understand why companies add these artificial colors to some foods where it is absolutely not necessary and I am sure they would sell the same without the colors. We have the same problem when we want to buy some fresh asian noodles for some dishes - so many options in the many asian supermarkets but 95% of them include Yellow5 to “enhance” their appearance. Every time we want to buy those noodles it is always a hunt for those without additives but it is never clear which shops has some and than it is often necessary to buy those with Yellow5. (And there is a reason why Yellow5 is banned even in Europe which tends to be quite industry-friendly). I am the last person supporting the current government and especially the idiot Kennedy but one thing I can get behind is banning all those artificial colors in foods

Especially since the sauce is actually a very natural looking pale green.
