In keeping with the trusted HO tradition of starting threads for 2025 early… the next lunch is just around the corner, folks
A very, very, VERY late lunch — linner? after running more errands in the afternoon, like getting my Secret Santa gift on the way finally (our UPS doesn’t sell greeting cards anymore, so a separate store visit was necessary), we were out of yogurt, and my mom’s bracelet I’ve been wearing since she passed needed to be repaired. I also had to drop off my car for inspection. By the time we got to the UPS store my stomach was growling
I nuked the last Peruvian chicken thigh (didn’t even care about the floppy skin WHO AM I?) and had a healthy helping of the aji verde. I want to drown in that sauce. Now time for my afternoon coffee.
I found a pack of pork chops on clearance this morning. There were three in the pack, froze two for a later date and made the last one for lunch for Sunshine. Kind of an odd lunch, but a hot meal none the less. Sunshine had to have her mandatory cup of apple sauce with this pork chop. It’s a rule (for her).
A couple of recent lunches, fettuccine alio e olio with a little extra pepe and basil slivers.
Crepes spread with Toscano cheese and an endive salad.
I revived a lentil salad for lunch today that I haven’t made in ages. The recipe calls for adding diced carrots and red pepper to lentils and the dressing includes yogurt seasoned with lemon juice, cumin, tumeric, ground coriander and cayenne. I really enjoyed this salad and will have to add it to my regular rotation. I think next time i will use some new potatoes instead of the pepoer and maybe add another vegetable or two.
Technically breakfast, but who’s keeping track?
The other half of the salmon filet we used for the hot pot on Friday, brushed with sesame oil & miso and cooked in the air-fryer, plus MW broc with roasted sesame sauce — guess I was in a salty mood.
Unfortunately, the salmon tasted off, so just broc for breakfast
LUNCH I meant to write LUNCH
Today’s Sunday omelet had Fromager d’Affinois cheese, thinly sliced pate de campagne, and chanterelles. I like the way soft-ripened cheeses melt in the omelet, with that tang from the rind. And the combination of soft cheese and pate, usually on a chunk of buttered baguette, has been a longtime favorite (though French people might be horrified). No photo–you see one omelet, you’ve seen 'em all.
Craving a salad today…blue cheese dressing, mayo, sour cream, buttermilk, vinegar, etc.
Cucs and tomatoes on the side with toasted semolina bread.
Toasted sesame bagel, homemade smoked whitefish salad (Easy to make; The hard part might be finding a whole smoked whitefish to debone and fillet), fresh dill.
Anticipation………
3 Lengua Tacos for $10. Woulda been 3x $2/ea ($6.00) if we’d just waited another 27 minutes for happy hour special. Sometimes one must succumb to the need for immediate gratification.
Pancho Villa San Francisco Mission.
Poached scallops in butter/evoo, fresh and dried herbs, sautéed garlic.
Simple green salad with Clementine vinegar and evoo.
Orange almond cake, some very finely chopped candied orange peel, brushed with the syrup from the candied oranges.
One of my favorite sandwich combinations: rotisserie chicken breast & seasoned smashed avocado (touch of mayo, lemon juice, spicy salt) on toasted homadama bread. A scattering of scallions.
Decided halfway thru it needed more kronch, so I added some banana peppers. Shoulda done did that right away.
Proper sustenance for my annual checkup with the breast surgeon this afternoon. He’s gorgeous
Best of luck with that… Sunshine has another appointment on the 15th. Its a long drive, but we play trivia together (on her phone) as I drive. She usually beats me.
