Thazz mighty purrtty… whatever it may be (beans, cherry tomatoes, some crispy stuff, salmon with… chopped spinach? over polenta?).

Turkish Yogurt Chicken & Rice, inspired by @ChristinaM’s Turkish chicken.

This was made with 8 chopped cocktail tomatoes, some raisins, dried mint, Aleppo pepper, black pepper, paprika, allspice, fresh ginger, garlic, cumin, yogurt , a couple lbs of chicken and around half to 3/4 a cup of rice.

I was also inspired by this Scott Conant Recipe
That said, my ingredients and proportions were quite different. The rice in my dish cooked in the juices from the tomato, yogurt and chicken.

Made a fruit salad for some much needed cheer yesterday: alphonso mangoes, cosmic crisp, blood & cara cara oranges, pomegranate, walnuts. Pretty, healthy, delicious.

Cheeborgerz @casa lingua tonight: TJ’s organic ground, Aldi sesame brioche buns, special sawce, red onion, shredded icebørg, ‘murrcan & Havarti. L&W fries on the side red/white. Natch.

I may reconsider this whole weekly meal planning thing. I have too much shit going on RN to have to come up with an idea for dinner every day, and Mondays used to be our regular burger night. It’s a start.

A little feast of Southern Indian food tonight: Squid Varuval, Scarlet Runner Bean Sundal, Keralan Avial (from Maunika Gowardhan’s book Indian Kitchen), and basmati rice. Somehow I feel like the amount of snow we got (just enough to be annoying) was unexpected this weekend. I used today’s dinner to pretend we were in warmer climes!
Leftovers will be for lunches this week.

Umbrian lentil soup with pasta. Roasted lamb sausages. Does doubling down on the mirepoix make up for nothing green whatsoever on the plate?

Yes, obviously.

inspired by @TheLibrarian28, I made chicken paprikash last night but saved it for tonight’s dinner. I followed a Serious Eats recipe that has you add gelatin to the broth, which made the sauce incredibly creamy/silky. It was a bit thin at first, however, so i let it cook down a bit in the oven with the top off. Also calls for a little fish sauce for umami and lemon juice for brightness, neither of which we could taste in the final dish but I’m sure they did their jobs. I used Mexican crema instead of sour cream because it’s what we had, and I would probably use regular sc next time because the crema is a little salty. i added dried and fresh dill, but could barely taste it. parsley too. Maybe my Hungarian paprika is old; the dish turned out more brown than bright orange red… But all in all, a really delicious dish, if not as pretty as @TheLibrarian28 's!

Trader Joe’s baby cauli browned in butter with parm and capers on the side.

We had meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. No photo. I had an injury to my foot and spent a lot of time in an urgent care center this afternoon. In a lot of pain and somewhat nauseous - I’m going to lose the nail on my right big toe. Have an Rx for an antibiotic that will mess with my stomach and a referral to a podiatrist for wound care. Life sucks then you die.

Hope you recover more quickly than you anticipate. Sorry to hear this happened.

Thank you. Oddly, I have no idea how it happened…and the emergency care doctor said he’d never seen anything like it before. He put a few stitches in the nail to keep it on my toe until I can see a specialist. I almost tossed my cookies.

Curious where you sourced these, as the earliest Alphonsos of the season are still a few a weeks away from market? (Or were they frozen?)
