Not bad at all; I was there for damn near an hour wandering around, and saw maybe 3 other people in the store, plus a few employees. I just need to find somewhere for good cheap herbs, and a reliable source of middle eastern groceries and I’m pretty well covered haha.
I frequented a few good ones when I lived in FL, but it was my first visit to this one. I was still working full time until the aviation industry really took a hit about a month ago, so I was still out of the house everyday. I cook just for me, and as long as I mask up and use common sense, I’m ok with venturing out. I tried a few times to get grocery delivery slots, but then decided I’d feel better leaving those for people who really need them. If I were close, I would offer to drop some goodies off haha but that’s a schlep!
Just realized I didn’t post an actual dinner pic. Mapo tofu with more shiitakes than called for, sautéed Chinese mustard greens, and a few straggly pieces of cauliflower. Not bad, but could’ve used more heat.
Thanks for the additional details. I may have to take a ride up there tomorrow. I’m going to have to start the list now.
Middle Eastern Markets - Where about’s are you? There’s a small Turkish grocer in Stella Plaza on Rt 166 in Toms River. If I’m looking to stock up I head to Paterson which has a large Turkish/Muslim population. Lots of groceries, bakeries and restaurants. Fattals is one of the largest with a diversity of foods.
I’m already plotting my next trip haha. I’m right off Belmar Blvd by Camp Evans, but will travel for food. I actually tried to check out the place in Toms River a few weeks ago, but they were closed, presumably because of the current situation. I’ll check again next time I’m down there, but think maybe a trip to Paterson is in my future. Thanks for the recommendation!
We celebrated the end of 55 days lockdown with a spritz, pizzas and cakes with neighbours. There is still restrictions to go out, but at least shops are opened, although restaurants and bars have to wait until mid June.
Been a busy week without many photos. Sunday night I used the last of our sourdough bread to make delicious patty melts with caramelized onions and melty cheddar cheese. Monday night was just a quick pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil. Last night I needed to use up the last of our corn tortillas, and I was tired of soft tacos so I made my first home fried hard shells. Ground turkey taco meat, jack cheese, lettuce and little tomatoes.
