Right back atcha.
So tell us…any interesting meals on the road?
Only a few. The Eagles fed us well but otherwise it was grab and go a good deal of crazy weather and a few bus derails.
My crew was outstanding. Heading to LA for their finale next week. Celebrate in San Diego.
Enjoy, which I could come along, but down in Florida, to help out mom with something!
What part of Florida? If you find anything good please post on the “other USA” regions board! We don’t get many posts about Fl. (Note to self: post about amazing Indian restaurant in Oldsmar!)
I’ve thought the same for awhile, but didn’t post for fear of being shot down. But it is a Home Cooking forum, and I like looking at it to spur ideas of what I might try my own hand at, at home. I like looking at restaurant meals for different reasons, namely is it in my town or a place I might visit - note to self - go eat there. But it doesn’t generally inspire me to cook x, y, or z, which I think is the purpose/intent of the home cooking threads.
I actually do get inspiration to cook from others’ restaurant meal pics!
The major diff for my WFD reading pleasure is that the comment is primarily meal focused and less about the restaurant service, atmosphere, or cost.
Even the wine/booze info is a nice inclusion on WFD (knowing there are boards about various forms of drinking).

I see your point.
To me this forum feels more like a group of friends chatting about what they had for dinner than a formal discussion with firm boundaries… which is a compliment and a credit to HO organizers and moderators.
I’ve periodically posted restaurant dishes here: less as a restaurant review, more as discussing something interesting I ate for dinner and want to share - sometimes because I think it can be recreated at home (that’s how my spanish dinner last night came about, actually).
I’ll defer to whatever folks prefer; but the camaraderie and flow are what I enjoy, so I’d rather have regular participants include the occasional non-home cooked meal than be absent because they ate at a restaurant or ordered takeout.
Pork souvlaki, tzatziki, tomato-braised long beans, and freekeh. TJ’s premium chocolate ice cream for dessert.
And I don’t begrudge you - I think that’s wonderful. My personal opinion, only, and everyone’s is different, is that a restaurant review feels more appropriate in a location forum, whereas a WFD thread on a cooking forum should focus on what people are cooking at home. That’s all.
Marinated Mixed Beans on Grain Bread Toast (Bread from Republique Restaurant & Bakery)
Rinsed Canned Cannellini, Navy, Black-eyed or Chickpeas or a mix. I vote mix. Using only Cannellini was kinda’ one-note.
Shallots soaked in a little White Wine Vinegar for about 5 mins.
Coat Soft Herbs (such as mint, parsley, chives, cilantro and or dill) w/Olive Oil in a big bowl.
Add Beans, Shallot Mixture, Generous Salt, Aleppo-style Pepper or Gochugaru (Korean pepper flakes). I didn’t have either and substituted w/Regular Red Chili Pepper & Smoked Paprika. Spoon on toast, extra drizzle of OO (optional) & sprinkle w/a pinch of Smoked Maldon Salt.
I discovered a reason recipe calls for generous salt - it balances acidity of the vinegar. A great starter or app, but since it was dinner I added an Anchovy (not pictured) to each one. This is quick & easy and because of the vinegar can be stored in the fridge for a few days.
My kind of meal. Nice!
Like a welcome home sign!
Everything sounds delicious!
Do you use a recipe for the souvlaki?
Nah, just marinated pork loin strips all day with garlic, lemon juice, fresh rosemary, parsley, salt, pepper, and Adobo.
I do know Cal Pep, went in 2014. It was very good.
Jealous! Look forward to reports (I’ll be taking notes for a trip soon, I hope!)
Another “what’s to eat when there’s nothing to eat”
Lettuce. EVOO + banyuls vinegar
Spaghetti with vodka sauce. Actually, leftover Rao’s marinara sauce + vodka+ cream+red pepper flakes
