I love a fresh corn in salads! The rice was completely unnecessary.

i know, right? the Chinese bakery makes most of its own baked goods, but that cake is one of those that when you get a slice, it has plastic sheets on either side, so I know it wasn’t made in-house. it tasted like awful canned frosting to me. He loved it.

Sunday night was a few apps - figs with brie wrapped in prosciutto, and deviled eggs (filing is yolk, mustard, vegan mayo, lemon juice, pepper, and sriracha). Never got back up to make dinner.

Last night was panko/parm crusted chicken breast topped with a quick herb sauce (parsley, mint, evoo, lemon juice, garlic, red pepper flakes, and fresh jalapeno). Side was roasted cauliflower with a garlic herb labneh sauce.

Any particular reason why you use this? I used my context clues and determined that you are likely not a vegan!

I really (like really really) dislike mayo, but find Just Mayo or Veganaise a bit better for those few times when a touch of something creamy is needed. I would usually use a bit of sour cream instead but it was not available.

Interesting and thank you!

Sounds interesting @Harters! Looking forward to seeing this.

P.S. What’s “rocket”?

No Harters - but I’m pretty sure rocket is more commonly known/goes by arugula in the US.

I’ve been intrigued for a while by your mentions of kimchi vinagrette. Can you share your recipe? Or process?

I rarely take photos :frowning: Got tired of waiting for my garden tomatoes to ripen, and bought about a dozen at the farm stand over the weekend. Thus, had some panzanella aka bread salad that one of my teens waits ALL YEAR FOR and then also in the same weekend, falafel (Joan Nathan’s lovely recipe) with a greek salad, TJ Hummus and toum on the side. The garden green beans are going bonkers now, so this weekend, they will be a side of something!

Certainly is. We Britons have anglicised the French roquette and there’s presumably a derivation from the Spanish & Italian rucola and rucula.

I remember back in the Chowhound days there was a very extensive thread there comparing just how many differences there were between American English food words and English English words.

By the by, dinner was OK but not a keeper. Quite a bit of effort that wasnt the sum of its parts.

Yes! I really (like really really) like mayo… Best Foods to be exact or Hellman’s to the east coasters. But I use Vegenaise all the time (Just Mayo sometimes). It’s lighter than mayo but still creamy & delicious. And shhh… it’s a great sauce hack. It’s perfect when you want a creamy base but not the fattiness of cream or mayo… and it never separates!

Fish and chips (curly fries) with buttered peas and carrot salad in herb vinaigrette. Lazy food after a long day. I did make tartar sauce…

Thanks for reporting back, Harters. That dish had piqued my interest. Too bad it wasn’t worth the effort.

Quick and easy dinner. Pappardelle in a creamy mushroom sauce, with added sauteed chicken and peas, patterned after this recipe on Allrecipes.

I’m still overrun with tomatoes, so tonight’s! ! gazpacho was a no-brainer. Chopped onions, cukes and peppers along with garlic croutons topped it off. My son had requested a croque madame (no ham for him) to go along. It was actually a better combo than I had thought.

Sure! I just do about half kimchi brine with about the same amount of a neutral oil usually grapeseed oil, and then either a small spoon of dijon or mayo to help it stay emulsified and i blitz with an immersion blender. Stays together pretty well, i make a good sized batch and just shakeshakeshake the jar again before using. Really great on any veggies
