Glad I’m heading out for dim sum tonight, otherwise I’d be experiencing serial dumpling envy RN
Enjoy!
Shinobu is near you and it’s amazing. Totally under the radar. I don’t know why it doesn’t get more recognition.
Kinda near me . Might check it out sometime.
An easy dinner after some errands that tired me out: Pistachio Pesto Pappardelle with leftover roasted chicken. Love having small containers of pistachio pesto in my freezer for quick meals like this.
There was
A cheesey dip of shrimp, corn, and roasted Fresno and poblanos chiles, with tortilla chips. The write up is on the COTM thread for NYT Cooking:
Sauvignon Blanc for me and session IPA for him!
I even have travelled all the way from St George Station to Lawrence Station to do sushi at Shinobu.
But yet, you won’t travel west of Yonge St
Lol, I live west of Spadina. I rarely travel east of Bay (well, east of Eataly), let alone all the way east to Yonge.
I would travel north of Bloor and to the east side of Yonge for Shinobu.
I admit, I haven’t been to Shinobu since I moved west of St George Station.
It looks pretty good, but 5-8 pm?? Come on now
Ooooh! I’m a pistachio slut & would totes inhale these
We were still pretty stuffed from our late-ish, lavish lunch at the time we were meeting up with a friend who was in town from PGH for his teenage daughter’s roller derby bout — btw, how bad-ass is that??? Srsly if that had been an option in my youth I woulda loved it. Now I manage to injure myself just by walking around the apartment
I wish we’d had more appetite than for a couple orders of very good XLB — one order of spicy pork
and one order of crab & pork,
plus shrimp & pork shumai we decidedly did not need.
I found them too large for my taste. A rendition I had in Toronto in 2017 at a dumpling place was far more delicate, smaller, and the shrimp flavor more pronounced.
We shared the stir-fried Shanghai bok choy with our dining companions
and ended up taking 4 of the crab & pork XLB home. Wonderful crab flavor, plump dumplings, nice, rich broth, and tender skins. We’ll def have to go back before we leave…… maybe when our bellies aren’t still coated in Taleggio and burrata
Butter bean soup, mirepoix, kale, chicken broth, kielbasa. Red cabbage and apple slaw with golden raisins, sunflower seeds, dressing of mayo, cider vinegar, a little sugar, celery salt and seed. There was a warm baguette and butter.
We had a friend and her kiddo over to hang, as well as another friend who happened to be in the neighborhood. Snack dinner - chips and salsa, my friend’s homemade focaccia and ricotta with oo and herbs, hummus, cheese and crackers, Boursin shallot-herb cream cheese spread, s&p cashews, Marcona almonds, cocktails, wine. We made something more substantial for the kids. No pics.
We enjoyed another excellent dinner at James on Main, in Hackettstown, NJ, including beef brisket Raghu with black truffle ricotta gnocchi, pecorino romano; Hokkaido scallops with lobster sausage, butternut nage, chestnut mushrooms. micro herbs; maple cured duck confit with miso sweet potato velvet, water spinach, brown butter creme fraiche; steak tartare and bone marrow; cold soba noodles with mushrooms and peanut sauce; crispy and creamy hand cut fries. It all went great with a couple of excellent cabernets.
As mentioned in @John freezer thread, tonight’s dinner was Tilapia, long grain and wild rice with peas as the vegetable.
