Pan fried halibut over avgolemono, with fries.
I think the bacon would work well. Your dollar tree sausage soup reminds me of one of my favorites: refried bean soup. Bacon, celery, onion, spices, refried beans, stock, etc.
Wow, that looks substantial!
I had major beef soup envy last night, too!
The restaurant I go o makes generous portions of soup and a bargain for only $11.50.
Temps are dropping, cooler mornings and evenings mild afternoons, so that means it’s time to make some soup!
Made a batch of Leshta(green lentil soup), but I found a litre of sausage and kale soup that I thought was just some frozen stock so that’s what I had for dinner with some warm baguette.
Start of a 4-day weekend for me.
Went with my sometimes-traditional Friday night dinner: a steak tip with Ballymaloe steak sauce, half a baked tater with TPSTOB&SC and steamed asparagus.
There was wine.

NYT’s Longevity Noodles (gift link): chicken, cabbage, mushroom, and scallion stir-fry.
Cabbage and scallions from the garden.
Chicken-fried chicken-of-the-woods mushroom sliders. All chicken except no chicken! Lettuce and tomatoes from the balcony, homemade challah rolls - shana tovah!
I’ve had company for the past eight days. My son and daughter-in-law were here to help me celebrate my birthday. Lots of cooking, domino playing and booze. I will be eating leftovers for a week. Mixed grill, grilled pork chop (my son likes to grill), mac & cheese, I always make too much, tons of Thai take out and birthday cake.
Anyone affected by Helene, my heart goes out to you. Wonderful to know @ChristinaM and family are safe.
Happy birthday to all my fellow Libras, I seem to remember there are bunch of us.
Carrot cake
Happy Birthday! Beautiful cake!
Mrs. P’s birthday is Saturday the 5th.
We enjoyed some steamed Dungeness crabs from Costco with some TJ’s sweet potato fries. We started off with homemade guacamole with an espresso martini. We enjoyed Ridge Zinfandel with the main course. Also including some gratuitous photos of the tail end of our flowers, which are still hanging in there.
Had to use up the fresh ho fun I couldn’t
resist in Chinatown yesterday, so chow fun for dinner.
Didn’t have beef because I didn’t think to buy any (even though I did buy bean sprouts in anticipation), so I made a mixed vegetable version – king oyster mushrooms (another can’t-resist), yu choy, bamboo shoots, onions, scallions.
Sounds like a fun week of celebration — happy birthday!
Nice chicken frying! Shana tova!
As a fearful fryer, I impressed myself! And thank you!
Fabulous colors of the garden. And the Ridge wine
