ok, not exciting. but it was a Lil Yami vanilla yogurt, from the PNW, brought to me by friends. love the stuff. wish we had it here. and good first-of-the-season peaches.
egg with the BF’s agrodolce chard, with golden raisins. that was some tasty chard, i hope he can replicate it.
slice of porchetta (TJs), egg fried with smoked paprika and sherry vinegar.
Pistachio bun from the FM. Latte by DH.
Breakfast started a little unpromisingly with instant apple porridge. It soon perked up with masala omelette and wonderful homemade stuffed parathas. Also homemade yoghurt and some beautifully ripe and fragrant mangoes. We had to tell the guy who’s place it was to stop bringing food or he’d have never stopped.
Up early to walk the dogs and watch Wimbledon. Made pancakes topped with blueberry maple syrup. DH made espressos.
I figured we needed a breakfast thread. What are you having for breakfast?
Breakfast here is often egg based but can often be fruit or bread and cheese. On occasion oatmeal but eaten uncooked like dry cereal, just hydrated with milk.
One of my wife’s requested breakfast meals. Egg rolled in a flour tortilla filled with vegetables, greens and a little cheese. Pardon the on the go serving plate
At work most days I am a scrambled egg and cheese gal. We only have a microwave, so I’ve got my supplies in the communal fridge, and whip them up most mornings. Tasty and long lasting! Not as good looking at that delicious looking tortilla though!
It’s one of the troubled meals for me . I’m never hungry when I wake up . It usually takes me a couple hours until I’m hungry . I’ll snack after that then have lunch . I do like breakfast though , bacon , eggs , hash browns , toast , huevos rancheros , waffles , omelets , love em all . I often eat these for dinner .
Beautiful tortilla, makes me want to make one right now (except they are demo-ing the kitchen as I write…).
A recipe that a friend of my sister’s passed on to me which is all raw soaked nuts and grains and seeds soaked and mixed into a fruit salad. Very delicious, especially now when fruits are so abundant. I call it Shirley’s breakfast bowl. I believe it came from a Buddhist retreat that she attended. I have the recipe in word format if anyone’s interested. Not sure if I should copy the whole recipe into this thread.
I would say I eat a cheese omelet with hot sauce for breakfast 90% of the time. The other 10% is made up of days when I don’t have time for anything and days when I have extra time so add vegetables to my omelet and/or a side of bacon or sausage. I might have a sweet treat for breakfast five or six times a year, tops. I like pancakes and french toast, but I really never want that much sugar in the morning.
Also not a breakfast person… I often don’t eat for several hours after I wake up: first it’s a couple of cups of coffee.
That said, my first meal of the day very often consists of scrambled eggs – in the summer, I might sauté an ear’s worth of corn in a generous amount of butter before I add two eggs.
Bacon & eggs is also popular. My man makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches, which I often crave as a hangover cure.
Dim Sum is nice, but rare.
Back in Germany, we always have a “full” German breakfast: soft-boiled egg, assorted cheeses & cold cuts, fresh rolls, milk, toast, trout caviar or smoked salmon… dayum, I am missing that as I type
There’s already a breakfast thread: What’s for breakfast (aka what’s going to happen exciting today)?
And right you are. I searched and didn’t see it. Happy to have this post merged into the previous
Two months ago I started eating breakfast daily. So far, it’s been steel cut oats or cracked wheat, sometimes toasted in coconut oil before cooking, topped with fresh fruit (bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and this morning honey and figs).
As a way to experiment with flavor combinations, I’ve also been doing savory versions and topping the cooked grains with leftover ingredients from dinner, spice mixes, etc.
Lingua , Did you have a chance to eat mett. I loved that spiced raw pork on rye for breakfast when I was visiting Germany . We stayed at my girlfriends moms house . Oh those breakfasts she prepared . A spread of meats , chesses , jams , breads , and other . She was a outrageous cook also.
I didn’t this summer, but I’ve had it many, many times. It’s often available on open-faced breakfast rolls at butchers or bakeries.
Add some diced onion on top and you got some of the worst first date foods ever
Nothing but fruit and high fibre cereal with skimmed milk before noon. Then I can feel less guilty about the rest of the day!
Cooking something in the morning jump starts my day. I get cranky if I don’t get to cook something. I know I have a problem…sigh
I try to mix it up so I don’t eat the same thing twice in a week. Today was waffles with my yard’s first ripe blackberries, syrup & whipped cream. Yesterday it was leftover halibut cheeks & eggs. Tomorrow will be “genius” oat porridge ( so-called because you use equal amounts of steelcut and rolled for perfect consistency without simmering for hours). Oh, and if I’m in a hurry, I usually default to smashed avacado bacon toast.
I like learning how to incorporate the previous day’s leftovers into breakfast. Loco moko, anyone?
Aloha,
Kaleo
