Traditional end of Passover pizza. This was takeout from a small, local pizzeria. They have a very strict ordering and pickup protocol which instilled confidence in the safety of their product. More important, their pies are delicious.
Dinner last 2 nights: pic #1, comfort food; orzo cooked in tomatoes with lamb stock and leftover lamb, topped with mizithra. Last night, grilled, fresh halibut for fish tacos. Although not traditional H & I have a fondness for fried corn tortillas, although sometimes we grill them.
LOL, are you secretly hiding the fact that you are professional chef? Your dinner ideas are unlimited and all delicious!
My son had a similar experience, although his initial awakening was from a prime rib that was being cooked on the grill when he was just entering his teens. He still ate the occasional chicken nugget and some fish until he was about 15, and then decided to become a vegetarian. Almost thirty years later, he couldn’t even imagine wanting to eat meat. I’ve always tried to honor and respect his choices, but we eats lots of veggie dishes so we can always find common ground in our meals.
MAH, I agree completely. I love this site, and this board, because we can bring a little bit of our shared humanity and a little of the fullness of our human experience to the table, and share in others’ lives just a little bit. I love Linda’s humor and the way she generously shares her life with us, and shares in our lives as well. Keep posting away, Linda. I for one will be happily sharing your journey!
you know what they say…
“Eternity is a ham and two people.” – Dorothy Parker
fried corn tortillas are the best! walking through Mexico City, the smell of frying tortillas is intoxicating.
I did! This is from a batch from a few months ago. I should eat more wontons.
Thank you for the kind words, but no. Far from it. I’ve worked in a restaurant or two, but who hasn’t? Just a home cook here.
Sounds about right. Tonight it will be Brussels Sprouts with ham (instead of bacon), brown sugar, and bourbon. My signature side.
Buffalo mushroom pizza night. Inspired by a pie we ate at the Maine Brewing Company back in January.
Well said. I completely agree.
In @PHREDDY’s defense, just to give him the benefit of the doubt as I’m sure we each would want - I can also see how, from his perspective, with things all around us being so negative, it can be soothing to have a refuge where there is no griping. That feels divorced from reality. That’s just about the food, its beauty, its composition. One good thing we can count on.
But, I agree with the others - these little glimpses into each other’s lives, and the ups and downs, are part of what makes this a community with a beating heart. And I like it.
It was a relatively quiet and easy day, albeit with a flurry of work-related stuff in the middle of the afternoon.
Dinner was relatively easy as well. A couple of BISO chicken breasts marinated in a combination of fresh and store-bought orange juice, teriyaki sauce, olive oil, a LOT of grated fresh ginger, s/p and honey.
The chicken was roasted in a 400° oven with a bit of the marinade spooned over top. The rest of the marinade was boiled and then reduced at medium-low heat, mounted with a tab of butter at the end to “sauce it up”.
Near East Rice Pilaf and steamed green beans alongside, as well as the obligatory wine.
Made it through almost my 4th week. Probably another 6 more to go before a slow release into the world. :::fingers crossed:::
Keep on keeping on, my friends.
You know the old quote about two people and a ham, I’m sure. How about split pea soup? Scalloped potatoes with ham? Ham and white bean soup with greens is quite nice, too. Fried slices with red eye gravy. I’m on a roll now…
HOE. LEE. CRAP!!! That bread is absolute perfection!!! I’m having heart palpitations at how beautiful is is!
Grumpy day here. I wasn’t really in the mood to cook but when I checked Seamless and Doordash, there were literally two places open nearby for delivery (both very lackluster pizza joints). So, no choice but to put on my big girl pants, drink a glass of wine and make something. Flap steak, mushrooms in sherry, and a chimichurri-esque sauce made with mint, cilantro, parsley and fennel fronds, plus lots of garlic and a couple of red serrano peppers from last year’s harvest (frozen). Very satisfying!
Let’s quarantine together.
Ahhhhh, youse guys! (Inner Jersey Girl comin’ out)
:::::a quick shove and a light punch @bear and @MAH on their virtual shoulders::::: Quit it. LOL
I haven’t. Knowing what I know now about the restaurant biz, I don’t think I would have survived long. But I supremely respect all who have.
When the shite hits the fan, the glass(es) of wine help.
