Kicking out Lebanese for Turkish
I used to have Lebanese next-door neighbors (a young couple in their 20s) who always had siblings visiting, and the cooking smells coming from their backyard were always mouth-watering.
On one occasion I was talking to the wife when I was outside, and mentioned that my wife was away for a few weeks. An hour later her husband was at my door with a plate of food; guess they figured I didn’t know how to cook. The food was wonderful. I returned their plate with a cake in it.
I still love it — one of our best friends is Lebanese, and a fabulous cook. Thankfully, I don’t actually have to choose between either IRL
Nice neighbors!
I’m quite aware. I love cacio e pepe, too. I just don’t see that as American Italian. Just thought I’d throw out the foods that have evolved from those different populations. Know what I’m sayin’?
That was my Armenian neighbors growing up. I was drinking their coffee when I was 3. They always had something good to eat and drink. Wish I was old enough to leech some recipes from Gulu, but she was in her upper 70s then. Ate many a meal from her hands.
