What are you making for Christmas & where are you celebrating?

I am curious about what folks are making for Christmas and where you’re celebrating. We are going to celebrate with friends in Ajijic, Mexico. Everyone is bringing something to share. I’ll be making a Chile and Roasted Bell Pepper Terrine and, because I got some fresh dill, Gravlax. We live in Zapopan, Mexico, about an hour from Ajijic, Mexico, which is on Lake Chapala. We have lived in Mexico for 12 years and love being here. Merry Christmas!

We are hosting a small circle of close friends for a seafood-heavy soirée:

My menu for xmas eve is here:

Xmas day two of the friends we’re hosting are having us and a few others over for turkey, mashed, green beans. We’re contributing a simple salad with walnuts and pistachio cookies

Amazing stories!

I am making only the peas and rice and will be having my first Christmas dinner not at home that I can remember in a very long time.

We will be at son’s home in nearby Sacramento. I don’t know what else the menu will include, but his wife is from Turkey. :crossed_fingers:t4: It will include baklava!

I don’t do holidays and besides, here in rural and sparsely populated El Hierro everything is closed for at least 3 days, starting today. 2 panettoni*, Lebkuchen* and some bread, local pineapples, dragonfruit, kaya spread* and island’s pineapple marmalade, queso fresco and goat’s butter from a cheesemaker around the corner. That’s all I have when I get back from hiking. And lots of wine. (*Brought with me from home)

I’ve actually been to Ajijic. A lovely town full of short and long-term foreign residents. Met some Mexicans on whale watching tours the year before and the following year I was back in MX staying a week in Guadalajara (half way through the month long trip). The Mexican acquantainces had moved to Ajiic by then so I took the bus there to meet up with them. We had a big lunch at a carnitas specialist, a huge restaurant on the highway between the 2 cities.

Nice to hear you like living in MX. I like visiting MX. Came back for the 4th time in Feb this year. Always first staying a week in Baja Sur for the whale watching tours (37 times now!).

Just two of us in Salt Lake City, Utah. We don’t have a Christmas tree, we have a Christmas table. Our C. Eve dinner tonight is braised short ribs and mashed potatoes and Waldorf salad. An obscene amount of candy, both cheap and fancy, also found its way into our (humble) home. We have a little dog too, I hope he likes short ribs! Here’s a merry Christmas onion.

Me, myself and I for raspberry jello dinner tonight. Tomorrow, will be a table of 10 here at our home; us 2, kids and grandies. Boston style clam chowder (I really prefer the Manhattan style), garlic bread, ‘Caesar’ (depends on who is making it—basically a green salad with ‘Caesar’ dressing) and ? dessert by the DIL. Gawd, I hope I can eat some of it! At least I’ll be home if the side effects continue.

We finally had a chance to have my gravlax (s&p & toasted & ground fennel seed rub, which gave it a wonderful note).

Deviled eggs & Crab Louie.

A stunning red beet, citrus & lotus root salad brought by a Korean art education prof.

My not-so-stunning but popular simple green salad with maters & walnuts in sherry vinaigrette.

Tha boyd.

Roasted cabbage & root veg.

And to finish, 3 Georgian cakes: honey, honey chocolate, layer. Wonderful & not too sweet.

We’re selfish bastards and kept my PIC’s amazing pistachio ice cream to ourselves :upside_down_face:

See, xmas didn’t suck entirely after all! Ya just gotta roll with the punches.

Merry, merry!

It’s what the holidays should be all about — at least they are for us: good food, drink & company

Due to life being ugly chaotic and messy, we went with a low key dinner at home with my partner’s father.

  • Field Roast Roast (for the veggies) and Roast Turkey Breast (for the meat-eater)
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Stuffing/dressing
  • Green beans with toasted almonds
  • Dinner rolls

(Not pictured: butter lake and rolls)

Everyone had seconds; no one had room for dessert. Partner cleaned up the kitchen while I packed everything away. Then I went off to bed and he/his father played UpWords.

Woke early and had pie for breakfast, then set myself to unpacking and potting the best gift: 10 new amaryllis bulbs!
