Thanksgiving 2024

Addictive!

OMG!! Yes, they are quite addictive!!

My girlfriend gave me 2 pounds of yeast for my birthday, back in August. She knows I’ll bake all manner of items with it – so it was kind of a gift for both of us!!

I really enjoy baking (yeast based) breads, rolls, homemade pizza dough – you name it!!

By the by, I still have 3 packages of sausages for you

@linguafood posted a joke about an app that would match stress bakers with stress eaters. I really wish that existed!!

Sunshine can only eat so many sweets and I have to watch how much bread I eat… so my baking has been minimal.

Instead of roasting a whole turkey, this year I’m planning to make turkey wings. I’m leaning towards smothered turkey wings because I got suckered by some videos. Does anyone have a reliable recipe you can recommend?

After being for so long without power and potable water, and with no plans to travel, we are going to do a quiet festive meal at home. Last year when my MIL visited, I cooked the full traditional spread. This year we are thinking to make a nice meal centered around braised short ribs gifted by my FIL. I have a menu sketched out but I will not be a surprised if it changes a lot.

I plan to open a half bottle of Barolo that I have been aging since 2020.

Welcome @enilorac ! Let me know if you find success! My family used to do chicken wings.

Similar situation here, except while I enjoy learning about baking, I don’t have the calling to actually do it. I find watching ā€œGreat British Baking Cook Offā€ scratches my itch.

I just discovered the oldest episodes on Roku!

Your plan sounds perfect.

I hope that you get to plan a delicious meal that isn’t labor-intensive so that you get a breather. And if regularly travelled for Thanksgivings past, let yourself be delighted by not having to deal with holiday traffic this year.

You always have such kind, supportive things to say. Thank you. :heartbeat:

Still unsure what our final menu will look like, but I thought it was a good idea to make Limoncello from scratch for the first time.

What about Kheema spring rolls with chutney for dipping? Along the lines of lumpia.

Why do I feel like that’s NSFW

How far along are you in the steeping / aging process?

There’s a limoncello thread if you want to share your process & results.

The mission, should I choose to accept it, is to get started on apps of salmon rillettes and chicken liver pate to distract myself from the gross, cold rain outside (but YAY RAIN! bec we’re technically in drought).

Oy spring rolls are too much work :joy:

But curry puffs have been on my mind – like these from WOL but kheema (which might as well be the same filling).

 Please tell me tell me we are not ā€œof like mindsā€.

I made them once, loved the recipe; I’ll look for it later.

I was able to buy organic wings from WF, I prefer the ā€œflatsā€ and they let me just get that part.

I started the process on Sunday, 4 days ago. I’m essentially using thekitchn.com online recipe. I bought a bottle of Double Cross vodka ($7.99 from Grocery Outlet) and a bag of organic lemons (9 or 10 total) which I peeled, not zested. Recipes says to steep between 4 days and a month, depending on how strong of a lemon flavor you want. I haven’t gotten to the step of adding the simple syrup yet. I have an old bottle of Rose’s lying around or I might make it from scratch. I’m agnostic about that particular choice at the moment. I thought it also could make a nice gift for a couple of my boozehound friends.
