Fancy or unusual chocolate varieties

We took our visitor to the wonderland that is the food floor at KaDeWe yesterday. Of course, the selection for almost any products (cheeses, seafood, meats, oils, vinegars, spices, etc. etc. etc.) is overwhelming, but the chocolate section really is something else. Dubai chocolate

Have any of you tried it? I know it’s a relatively recent trend, and our local patisserie apparently decided to make their own. I wanted to surprise my PIC with a special treat & knew I had to get this, given that both of us are major pistachio heads [F3E977A1-085D-419E-9CE0-3360518F36DA_1_201_a] I have not had a taste yet (saving for after dinner), but please do me a favor and guess how much this was

Dark milk chocolate

Last year, I was intrigued enough by a FB ad for chocolate made from a purportedly new variety of Peruvian cacao that I ordered, and liked, the 64% (I think?) dark chocolate. It has a cherry-ish finish. More recently, they released 47% “dark milk” chocolate. I have no idea whether or not that’s a recognized thing, but I do like it. A far cry from “Nestshey’s”

Dark chocolate and heavy metals

Dark chocolate is one of my favorite sweet treats, so I’m distressed to learn that Consumer Reports found excessive amounts of lead and cadmium in testing popular brands of dark chocolate sold in the US. Products from Trader Joe’s, Hershey’s, and Lindt were among those tested. The CR story is worth a read if you are a fellow fan of dark chocolate.
