Fancy or unusual chocolate varieties

We took our visitor to the wonderland that is the food floor at KaDeWe yesterday. Of course, the selection for almost any products (cheeses, seafood, meats, oils, vinegars, spices, etc. etc. etc.) is overwhelming, but the chocolate section really is something else. You’ll have to zoom in for a few pics where I tried to get all the flavors on a shelf.

I didn’t find an existing thread about chocolate varieties, so now we got one. Add yours when/where you find them

Camel milk (!!) chocolate. Has anyone had it?

Cherry blossom chocolate? What? I can’t imagine what this would taste like…

I LOVE the Dolphin chocolate! I sometimes find packages of small squares at Home Goods right after Thanksgiving when they stock chocolate from around the world. It’s where I go to buy assorted chocolates to fill the mini gift bags for employees at work.

Will have to revisit this thread in six months.

Bought this today in Waitrose on sale for £3. Nice to have a piece after a meal for dessert. Picked up a couple of other types of bars from the same brand - dark chocolate with almonds and dark chocolate with hazelnuts. Saw the Lindt Dubai chocolate dupe - £10 a bar! Yikes! Way out of my budget. Also saw the Ritter Sport non-Dubai pistachio chocolate but it was milk chocolate so I decided against.

There was also an almond orange bar, but I now regret not getting the pear almond one :frowning:

Hopefully I can find it in Berlin

Sooo…I went to World Market yesterday, and as I do, headed straight to their food and wine section. Pistachio Cream, Mutti Passata, Mutti Marinara (for the HO thread on marinara sauces), Red Boat Fish Sauce, and Dumpling Daughter’sSpIcy Sweet sauce, along with several bottles of Silk & Spice red blend wine, were among my purchases.

So why am I telling you this here? Wellll…I also checked out their chocolate bars. I bought six (and yes, this will keep me in chocolate for a long time since I only need a square…or two!..to satisfy the need!)

Endangered Species 72% Dark Chocolate with Raspberries - $3.69

Butler’s 70% Dark Salted Caramel - $5.29

Chuao Chocolatier’s Cheeky Cheeky Churro - $5.69

Chocolates of the World Yuzu Lemon Peel Milk Chocolate (made for World Market) - $3.79

Bissinger’s 60% Dark Chocolate Caramelized Blood Orange - $6.59

Chocolates of the World Sour Cherry Dark Chocolate (made for World Market) - $3.79

I’ve just tried the Endangered Species Raspberry. Very good smooth dark chocolate with bits of chopped freeze-dried raspberries that lend a slight hint of fruitiness.

Reviews of others to come as I try a square (or two!).

I’m a fan of dark milk chocolate, the added milk powder takes off the edge of bitterness….but it’s difficult to find…and Tony’s has pretzels or brownies in it.

Tcho, before it went 100% plant based, sold a low % dark bar with Blue Bottle espresso coffee it in. I haven’t found anything similar to it.

Yeah, this is a big NO. Just had a couple of squares after dinner, and there’s something off.

It’s got a crunchy Rice Krispies-ishness to it to mimic the crispy fried dough of real churros, but the flavor is off from those I’ve had where you can dip the churros in melted chocolate or dulce de leche. Did they add a teeny-tiny pinch of cayenne? Dunno. But not my cuppa. I’ll eventually eat the rest of the bar, but won’t buy it again.

Bummer :frowning:

Hope the others live up to your expectations!

On Lindt Excellence, bought Mint Intense flavour for H a while ago, actually was pleasantly surprised. Also tried Irish Coffee, not bad, but a tad too sweet for my liking. Didn’t know they have a Mousse collection though…

Recently, I am a big fan of Castronovo’s White Chocolate with lemon sea salt. Usually I don’t particularly like white chocolate but eating this bar is like having a dessert, very lemony zest taste. Too bad it is from Florida, and not much chance I will be able to find it here.

I tried a bunch of those over the years and was generally not a fan.

I eat a lot of Tony’s and I don’t think of myself as liking chocolate and sweets! I think I like it because of the salted stuff you can get mixed in.

BTW @LindaWhit , I first discovered it at World Market, but can find it at a lot of places

Just had a couple of squares. This one is a keeper. :+1: Very good dark chocolate with an intense orange goo in the center of each square. Neither overpowered each other, but complemented each other nicely.
