Thanks for the response. I’ve always wondered why the price is so high, unless it’s just because they can because of the brand.
I can’t justify the price even if this one is just a lemon. I saw a YouTube video comparing this one with a common toaster…maybe it was Black and Decker. The Black and Decker won easily.

Bingo. Smeg trades heavily on the status aspects of the brand. As does Breville.
I didn’t know SMEG and Breville were status brands. The SMEG was a status price and this one ruined their reputation for me. I’m not impressed with Williams-Sonoma either. I use a countertop oven for a toaster now.
Well, certainly not status brands relative to Lacanche or Subzero. But well above their functional equivalents.
Subzero is fine by me. Good products.
My Breville deep fryer did not cost any more than the DeLonghi it replaced but it does a much better job.
If you ever return to using a toaster, look for a half century old Sunbeam. If you want new, the blessedly microchip-free Dualit is terrific.
I bought a deep fryer a few months ago and didn’t know what to buy so I went with a t-fal. It works nicely I feel.
Williams-Sonoma does not manufacture anything. They just put their name on products and jack up the price.
Like ‘Made in’ cookware ?
I have a “new” Dualit - I think from before they stopped making them in th UK. With a sandwich basket, of course.
Didn’t know Tfal made deep fryers. Learn sum-n new everyday. I’d like to hear how the oil filtration system works in that thing. Please report back after use.
Ding! ding! Made-In wherever. Clever BS name, though. Do a search for “made in the USA” and sure as heck, they pop right up. They have a few items made in the US.
The filtration cleans the oil pretty darn well and I store the oil in the plastic container it drains to. So everything remains clean and ready to use.
I only use it about 3 times a month and then only for French fries, breaded tilapia, breaded pork tenderloin, and breaded shrimps.
The device heats up and holds the heat nicely. Overall I am happier than expected.
Oh, one draw back for some might be that it only heats to about 370-ish F tops.
I guess mine predates the sandwich basket, circa late 1070s. It had an element burn out ages ago. I took it to WS, and they replaced it with a new one. It used a chip. I eventually got my old one back. Now they make replacement elements readily available I understand.
Or Dehillerin?
Williams Sonoma was inspired by Dehillerin.
I bought the sandwich basket later! It didn’t come with the toaster.
