Appliances on your Countertop...

Hi Vecchiouomo,

Are you intending to replace your Bonavita? I understand the company has just been revived.

Essential to me, too; but call it what it is, not just fancy the name up for markup. I use my toaster oven, then convection toaster oven, then air fryer, all the time. Toaster oven- $25, convection toaster oven- $50, air fryer, $130. Good marketing. Yay.

Not exactly, Greg,

Oster has done a good job of providing a whole array of slightly different 6 slice toaster ovens–even five years ago when I purchased the last one.

The one I purchased this time has held the line on price–but added even more variants. The model I’ve received has really nice polished metal knobs–I think it is a different sub model–and it has a more reliable timing mechanism.

It’s an upgrade in quality–but not an increase in price.

Glad that worked out for you. Is it an air fryer?

I vacuum seal many things such as marinading and proteins like steak if I decide not to cook it on the day of purchase…heck I even vacuum seal my dog. Probably the main use throughout the week is to seal a jar storing whole bean coffee.

The only cans I buy are cheap black beans with that tab. That tab seems to have a success rate of about 60% and then I have to reach for a screwdriver. :rage:

Lol. I’m wondering if running to the fuse box counts as cardio.

Wow! That’s terrific and virtually unheard of!

Hi Greg,

No.

It was the model I had five years ago–but it had been improved.

No need. It is still working fine. BTW, how many toasters have you replaced over the last 40-50 years?

I have a brand new SMEG I will give away. Hate it. I am using the word hate here. Hate hate hate.

Hi Vecchiouomo,

It was a battle–but I finally gave up toasters in favor of a single toaster oven–I had both for awhile.

My small “toaster oven” is better at toasting than my toaster was–especially with my penchant for English muffins and toasted bagels.

We’ve had an Oster Convection for 6 or 7 years? ( COVID-- now with improved loss of time sense!) Anyway I’ve had a love/ hate with-- The labels are just about impossible to see & the adjust time/temp control doesn’t work…until it does. Constantly it over/undershoots. ARRGH! OTOH, it just plain works. Recently I subcummbed to upgrade fever & bought the top rated LUBY oven. It also works but is old school & my wife hated it. Used it for a week & put the Oster back.

Hi WallaceReadsAlot,

I felt that pain for several years before getting the straight replacement that’s better than expected.

I have 3 appliances on my counter tops. Food processor, KA mixer (not used much but to heavy and big to want to find a place in a cabinet) and coffee maker

Inventive use of off-the-shelf items.

And now you can measure your knives from the lana’i…

Agreed. Love the toaster oven. It’s the size of my latest one that really won me over, though. It can fit my 10" CI, a 2Q saucier. I just bought the thing for the usual stuff you pointed out. But when a 2 Q saucier fit in there, the sky opened up to reveal a new age in sauce making. Then, when the 10" CI fit, I saw the future of so many meats that would one day finish inside. I got my mom a very similar one; just updated. She said she didn’t use it much. (Lives in AZ). I told her to put it on her patio (lenai). She asked why. I said since she hated firing up the oven in summer, this would be her summer oven. Sht, in Phoenix, AZ probably wouldn’t even have to turn it on. It’s on her patio.

Why is that Smeg toaster crap? Aside from the price.

On my countertop, all my appliances are plug and play: can be moved around or removed. Above, and below, I have my microwave and my “roaster” oven built in.

In my first arrangement, I had far less countertop space. I’m learning to value that space more and more.

Sorry for the delay. This one toasts terribly uneven and the controls seem to have a mind of their own and they change their mind without notice.
