I don’t like to clean my oven so I hired a couple to come in to clean for two hours; they worked liked demons and I’ve never seen that stove so clean!

I wanted to get some newspaper for the kitchen floor, when I couldn’t find any I texted them to see if they could locate. Nope, so we used plastic bags.

We still take the local paper in print form, but not because it’s good journalism and neither does it offer good local coverage. Mostly we still believe in the importance of the Fourth Estate so we continue to take it, but also because newsprint is so handy for lining the table for crab feeds or under the car for oil changes. Mrs. ricepad wants to go digital only, but I would have to find some other way to light my charcoal!

Live crabs at 99 Ranch in El Cerrito going for $6.99/lb yesterday. Only bought one because we had gone for striped bass, but could not resist. Made Singapore style chili crab. So good!

I’ve always wanted to go on one of those rockfish/crab charters out of the Berkeley Marina, but you bring home like ten crabs and 10 lbs of fish, so you have to have a crew ready for a feast when you get home (also they usually head out at like 5 a.m.)

And that’s PER PERSON! Some friends went out a few years ago on one of those party boats, and on the way home, they called a bunch of people to come over for an impromptu crab feed that night. We had enough time to stop for some wine and spent the evening stuffing ourselves. It was spectacular. I have no doubt they had any trouble rousting enough of a crowd, even at the last minute.
