Recreational crab season opened on Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Bay Area. Here’s some drone footage of Pacifica pier. Seems like a fair crowd. Maybe I’ll get some crab gear or borrow some.

Fishing for rock crab which fetches about half the price of Dungeness but isn’t subject to the Dungeness bans.

8 years since I have had Dungeness crab. Living here in Mt Shasta. I never have bought a cooked crab in my life coming from the coast of Santa Cruz.
Today I called R@R meats ,and seafood in Redding . They travel to the coast to pick them up live to be cooked on site . I asked if they would sell me a couple live . They said no problem. 9.99 a pound . Call ahead for information. YES ,YES ,YES. Hopefully next week . Can’t wait.

Good for Santa Cruz. I used to love going to the harbor to pick the live ones .Now living hundreds of miles away . I found a connection 1 hour away .

I was in Oakland Chinatown on Weds and today and checked crabs at two places, Yet Sun Market and Green Fish and Produce….no crabs, empty tanks. Not sure what’s going on but in the CDFW press release there was mention of partial opening it might be after Jan 15 that all of NorCal is open. In any case, no local crabs so far as I see.
Side note: Green Fish and Produce under new owners. management. Use to be bustling, now seems dead.

At SF Supermarket in Stockton this morning, dungees from Canada were selling for $8/lb. Most looked to be right around 2 lbs, more or less, and were pretty lively. They had two full tanks and a small like of people waiting.
