no intent / inkling to dis- anything/anybody . . .

DW is a Bal’more gal - O’brickies was a standard.
I grew up on the Delaware Bay side - and ate buckets of local crab.

fast forward decades , , , we did a California fling vacation - starting in SF - did all the ‘tourist gotta’ stuff.
. . . . including dungeness crab.
Fisherman’s Wharf tourist trap, and etc . . .

ack/oops/and all that - dungeness just did not rate all too high on our “damn good crab” meter.

apparently the delectibility of “crab” is different between east coast and west coast.

Hmmm…well I am from NYC, lived 8 years in DC, ate as much blue crab as I could afford (which granted, wasn’t a lot), and find value in both of those , as well as some others.

The real discovery for me was how much difference it makes eating them soon after steaming.

I see you my pretties!

the cost is right low , , ,

DW can strip a crab in ~45 seconds. . .

Sounds great!

I guess I will just have to suffer these.

Those tiny blue crabs on the East Coast aren’t worth the trouble. Good crab cakes on the. East Coast….after you crack the tiny little shells. SIZE does matter, always. But no one will tell the wife.

Go to the top of the thread, can catch your own BIG Dungeness crab here. The weather is great out here too!

I have a date in the morning. Driving down the hill to Redding to pick up two live crabs at R@R Meats and seafood. Its been nine years since I have had crab . Of course I’ll be coming back with other goodies .

Was in Oakland Chinatown, $7.99/lb at Yet Sun Market, seemed small. $8.99/lb at Sincere Seafood, outer Chinatown and they’re larger given they also sell to restaurants. None at Green Fish and Produce. Use to be 4 or 5 fishmongers in Oakland Chinatown. Now there’s effectively 2 given Green Fish ownership change. I can’t see how they’ll make it.

Steamed with butter, lemon and sourdough baguette. Very delicate and sweet. These were from New England Lobster Company: 1.5 pounders were $6.95/lb and 2 pounders were $9.95/lb.

I liked this idea for picking them.

I haven’t tried it that I can remember, but it seems like I have to re-learn something every year!

Had crabs over the holiday weekend. Went to Lucky Seafood in Oakland. Forgot about this place, use to go like 10 years ago, use to have a branch in Oak Chinatown. Crabs were $6.99, $7.99, $8.99 and $9.99 depending on size and missing legs/claws. Went for the $8.99, 3 crabs came out to 6.5 lb. Fishmonger showed each crab had all the parts before bagging. If it was missing parts, it went into the $6.99 tank.

Love the newspaper on the table - I use paper grocery bags!

Hahaha…yeah you don’t want any random crab water or squirt anywhere. Seems harmless but a day later it can turn into mysterious bio hazard that isn’t seen but definitely smells like death.
