Your favorite hangover cure(s) for the next day are.....?

Here’s The Guardian’s hangover cure remedy test article, most of these tricks tested WON’T work.

Before starting a new thread, I ran a search and sure enough the subject had already been covered here.:slightly_smiling_face:
$50K question on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

“Because it contains amino acid that stimulates the enzymes that break down alcohol, which of these is often touted as a hangover cure?”

A: Orange juice
B: Pork
C: Asparagus
D: Popcorn

I didn’t get it but she did.:slightly_smiling_face: Answer down below.

ETA: I tried spacing the answer way below so everyone would have a chance to guess, but this site wouldn’t allow it. Spoiler alert in next post.

C: Asparagus

Drink premium booze with water for every shot . Or eat a pat of butter, suggested from a person on this site before drinking. Preventive maintenance.

Grilled. Cheese.

Definitely water. :droplet::sweat_droplets::droplet: A LOT of water. And Tylenol (I prefer Advil, but I can’t take it anymore).

Then something to soak it up. Toast or an English muffin, and scrambled eggs with cream cheese. A bowl of oatmeal has helped in the past, too.

I can’t do greasy foods; with a wonky hangover tummy already, and my elder gut being wonky with certain foods, a greasy burger or the like wouldn’t fare well.

Tylenol after a night of drinking isn’t a good idea as it is known that it increases the chance of liver damage/tox.

It is a mistake to cure a hangover, as it is in fact a gift: the suffering you’re feeling is a karmic penalty for lying to yourself last time you were hung over, about how you’d never drink that much again.

That said, some gifts should be rejected. Drink some Liquid IV next time.

I rarely am hungover anymore as I make sure to hydrate with plenty of water while partaking.

@linguafood had it at the outset.

1). Hydrate like crazy. Chug a pint of water and repeat each time you need to be.
2). Grease and spice: a cheeseburger (a big one all the way, with chili if you can get it) and fries sprinkled with hot sauce, and I don’t mean Tabasco. I mean ghost pepper. I like Melinda’s bhut jolokia.

Well, with my heart medications, including blood thinners, I can’t take ibuprofen.

And at age 67, I’m not out at raves every weekend partying up a storm. My “going out” nights are long behind me, and this might be a single night 4x a year, max.

So I’m pretty sure I’m safe from impending liver damage.

Of course everybody’s situation is different etc. and it was just a general comment as I am often surprised how many people I know seem to think that Tylenol, Aspirin or Ibuprofen aren’t really drugs and tend to use them very frequently, some nearly daily

I used to only take Advil and now only take Tylenol when I absolutely cannot deal with a stress headache (or take one the night of me going out after I get home to help ward off an actual hangover). How anyone would not think they were drugs is beyond me, just because they’re not prescribed.

I remember some classmates in college taking Tylenol or Advil while they were still drinking, or right before bed after a night of drinking, thinking they could prevent a hangover the night before.

I wonder how their livers are doing now.

Ive (mostly) learned that the best cure is to avoid it, but stuff happens!

Some sort of electrolytes along with a shot of a liquid B complex, with food as soon as Im able seems to tame the beast, along with a big cup of coffee.

In my younger years I’d chug an enormous glass of milk, much to everyone’s horror. (In retrospect it’s not awful if you can so it. Theres liquid, protein, and some sugar. Kinda what you actually need)

Autocorrect is overly modest. I truly wrote pee, but autocorrect changed it to be. Maybe I should have used micturate, a la Big Lebowski.

My go-tos are similar to ones others have posted:

  • Hydrate. Then, hydrate some more.
  • Eat something before you imbibe, so the alcohol doesn’t go right to one’s head.
  • That being said, I am too old at this point to pile something heavy and greasy into my digestive system after a night of drinking (or afternoon of day drinking). All it does is sit there and not digest. Just have water and unwind until sleep comes.
  • Next day: hydrate. Followed by more hydration with something caffeinated (coffee).
  • If food is required to fix the mung (our household term for the hangover), I tend toward diner fare or a breakfast burrito. That being said, spice, in the form of chiles or hot sauce is generally welcome in massive quantities.
  • More sleep.

At this point in my life, I am down to 1-2 nights in a given week where I might imbibe. Even then, I have no interest in losing days of my weekend to hangover management and recovery. Plus, I am finding, now that I am approaching 54 in December, that alcohol is a trigger for hot flashes and night sweats and good sleep time is just too valuable…

Twinsies!

Unfortunately, those hot flashes and night sweats ain’t going anywhere, regardless of booze consumed or not

Yeah, that is true! In my case, they did become less frequent (at least so far) once I ratcheted back. Time will tell though. Bodies are a scam!
