I’m not sure about an employee following me around in the store. I guess it is good they had an extra employee, but why? My last grocery experience was so disappointing. Very few clerks, just 2 for 8 shoppers in line, no baggers; at least I wasn’t in a hurry. On a Saturday afternoon, 3:30pm. No big high school sporting playoff event, either.
Interesting. If I’m going in for only a few items on my list, I don’t pick up the plastic basket they offer, as it’s often more awkward to carry. I just use my reusable shopping bag and have never had an issue.
One store I go to does NOT have self checkout, so you must go through a cashier checkout (Market Basket, local to New England). I just unload my bag at the checkout counter and put the bag at the front of my items for the cashier to rebag everything. I can’t recall ever being followed or looked at oddly for putting items in a bag. And I have seen other people do it at both MB and Hannaford (another New England supermarket). Wegmans is always a big shop for me, so I use their carts.
But I do understand the reasoning as to why stores wouldn’t like that.
I go to one store that seems to appreciate it and one that does not. I went to the register at the latter with the food already in my bag (ice cream in a chill bag) and asked what they preferred. I was told they don’t want it “but they know me”.
And they do!
Too big an assumption in my household. But color me super impressed by your inventory control method!
It’s raining!
We need rain so badly, but none forecast for the foreseeable future
Lucky you! There has been absolutely NO rain in the DMV in the month of October. Major drought conditions.
Mrs. ricepad and I got hit with a dozen or so drops during our walk about an hour ago!
Does your use of “DMV” refer to Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia or Delaware/Maryland/Virginia? I have always used and only heard the latter, but apparently since in the time I was out of the US from 2009 to 2024, the former became the common use of it.
And I usually think of it as also having a use related to the Delmarva Peninsula as well.
My sympathies! Is that unusual there? Wait…I should know that one; I lived in DC for 7 years! I can remember several Bison homecomings in the rain!
There was none here in June, July, August, and September! Okay, there was a few minutes in August.
Rain here Wednesday through Friday . Forecasting a couple inches snow for Saturday morning.
I haven’t brought the pizza oven indoors yet . Its covered for weather.
Maybe another pizza Saturday.
Exciting! Yes?
Yep, DMV is used nowadays to refer to the DC metro area.
We’re entering ‘advanced’ fall here. High temps, mid 40’s, lows in the high 20’s. A few rain sprinkles here and there, no icy roads yet. Studded tires will probably go on next week. Watching all the aspen leaves and the larch needles make for ‘the yellow brick roads’ we see every year. The pumpkins I have set on the porch have not been touched by the deer, yet. Sunrise after 8 am and sunsets at 6pm. DST ends next week. The ISS flyover in the early morning before dawn.
Thank you. Each time I return to the US from a stint living in Japan (1987, 1996 & 2024) there are multiple language & cultural changes which are hard to get used to. This last stint started in 2009 and I was gone for much longer than the first 2 times so I’ve got a lot I need to get used to.
not uncommon for our area (central PA) to get some serious snow accumulations . . .
since we retired, there’s no need to go out and contribute the the length of the backed up traffic - which can get right ridiculous . . . .
come fall, we stock the freezer - we can go 2-3 weeks without having to go out…
every summer we clean out the chest freezer - now ‘restocking’ for winter. so that essentially keeps the “hmmm, wonder what that is?” to a minimum . . . but it’s a regular struggle to keep tabs on what goes in vs what comes out.
I can’t remember the last time central PA had a proper winter. I think we had exactly one snowfall / “storm” last year. The last 4-5 years have been pretty mild with very little snow, unfortunately.
yuppers. 2010 was a super-doozy - not only the snow, but we had 4 weeks of single digit low temps and no above freezing highs.
being picky about a ‘dry basement’ - I have all my downspouts captured into 4" pvc and routed way far away from the house… now, one would think after 10 years (from build…) the ground would have had plenty of time to consolidate . . . oh, no… I had to collar all the downspouts to make up for the 3-4 inches of ground level subsidence due to the deep freezing.
