That’s who I was thinking of! I was just telling him “we are good with goo-gone”. So many bottles of “goo-gone”.
I shared a 5BR/1 Bath house with 4 other women after I started working. We each had a set area in the cabinets for our own food, and half a shelf in the fridge. Certain things were group items (condiments, IIRC). If you needed something another had, you asked to borrow, and then replaced.
It somehow worked. Even with several very strong personalities. But I totally get it NOT working out in many cases.
You’re certainly on the ball! I also have something similar for my spice cabinet. I had to the last time I cleaned out our spice cabinet and found dubes of too many goodies.
Especially at work. I always crack up at the stories of coffee creamer labeled as ‘breast milk’.
I was in Sprouts supermarket today to get more of the beautiful & delicious apples I had posted here earlier.
Soon after I entered the store, an employee started to follow me around. Sprouts is rare here in Vegas as they charge for bags (I’ve literally one been to one other store here that does that, “Daiso”, the Japanese dollar store), so I always carry my own washable shopping bags. No matter where I went in the store, this employee followed me and it made me quite uncomfortable.
Sprouts sometimes has little condiment containers with lids containing samples of the various bulk foods they sell like nuts, seeds, etc. If something seems like I might enjoy it, I’ll taste it and may buy some. And if I think it’s something that my sister might like as well, I’ll take a sample for her as well and she had asked me in the past to go back and buy some for her, Today I tried 2 samples and brought 2 home for my sister. I’ve looked and there are no signs saying that samples must be eaten in the store, so that MAY BE the reason he was following me. But I would hope that if that was the reason that the employee would approach me and say something to that effect. But if was suspecting me of shoplifting, I’m quite angry.
Do you think I should report this to Sprouts management? To be honest, though I like some of the products they carry and other than this time, I’ve been generally happy with my experience there. But I’m not feeling too happy right now. I’m not a muckraker, but IMHO, repeat customers shouldn’t be treated like this.
Can’t really answer your question except to say that, if that had happened to me, I’d have asked the employee why at the time. Bringing it up later seems like it would be difficult unless you’re right about the sampling thing. Otherwise there’s no behavior on your part to reference. JMHO.
Were you placing things into your own shopping bag as you went through the store? I’ve seen people do that at TJs in nyc and wondered how security reacts or how store employees could be expected to know what someone came in with. (I carry reusable bags but shop in a cart or basket.)
A few weeks back, I walked into a little store with a can of soda bought at a previous store. When I went to pay for my purchase, the cashier pointed to the can, but when I said I walked in with it, she was fine. I felt bad that I hadn’t put it away.
(Agree customers shouldn’t be treated this way, and yet some customers encounter this more often than others.)
I thought about approaching the employee to say something, but unfortunately I’m not very comfortable with confronting anyone in any situation.
No, I never put anything in my shopping bags before they’re purchased. I had been to another store before entering Sprouts and had put those purchases in that store’s bag which I then put in my little bag that holds my water bottle. (edit: I had 2 unused cloth shopping bags in my pocket and didn’t take them out until I finished ringing up my purchases at the self-service registers.)
I learned NEVER to put anything in a personal shopping bag before being purchased because that was something drilled into my head in Japan where they announce it in stores and post signs about it as well.
My favorite store here in town, La Bonita has security guards at each entrance who will tell you that you must leave your backpacks or large bags at the service desk before shopping. I always make sure to follow their rules if I’m stopped. But I have left a zipped backpack on the bottom rack of my cart to carry my groceries and they have never objected to that.
I see no reason not to ask a Mgr the policy on bins, mentioning how the employee followed you around and that it was unsettling, the next time you go to the store.
and, fwiw I was followed around the bins while shopping for coffee. I was looking for aging areas on the beans and an employee appeared out of nowhere. I guess he thought I would stuff my pockets with coffee beans!
Probably an overzealous safety and loss employee trying to score points with Corporate. I’d just put him in his place on the way out. Just out of curiosity, why two samples for your sister. Was it two different products or the same.?
I had never seen that employee before and I have seen some employees who are security guards there. They wear different uniforms from the regular employees.
As for the 2 samples, they were of different items.
Thank you. The receipt I got included a request for feedback and I think I’ll use that to inform them of my unpleasant experience. (edit: The samples I ate there and brought home for my sister were already pre-dispensed into the condiment containers. I would NEVER open up a bin and sample anything in the store.)
I never had any roommates, either. Loved living on my own in my 20s.
Maybe I should rephrase that as “undercover”safety and loss. Makes a difference.
This employee was in a cashier’s uniform.

Oh I see. Totally different situation.
Sorry the shopping experience was unsettling for you.Naturally your experience does encourage me to inquire about bin policy at my own local Sprouts.Customer Feedback and Mgmnt policy/clarity go hand in hand.
