A review of yesterday’s lunch, this time as a sauce for pasta.
A slice of plum jam/diced pear crostata with crème fraiche.
Scrambled eggs/diced tomato/scallions/mushrooms and feta with a side of really good, toasted “ancient grains batard”
Your HBEs look near perfect.
Why, thank you kindly! I didn’t even make them — my PIC did while I was tracking down doubanjiang. They had cooled more than I would’ve liked.
I use the “start in cold water, bring to a boil, take off the burner & set the time for 12 min” method, which is pretty fool-proof ![]()
Crispy sautéed potato cubes, also sautéed fresh artichoke bottom with blk Moroccan olives, a spoonful of vinaigrette in the pan.
Pork tenderloin salad, finely diced celery, cornichons, chives and sorrel.
Asparagus with vinaigrette.
Italian sausage panino with roasted red pepper, tomato, lettuce, gavarti, mayo and mustard. I had a blood orange flavoured Perrier to wash it all down with.
Lunch today at Gregoire https://gregoirerestaurant.com in Berkeley - a small take-out place with a few tables (but recently opened a second location in Inner Sunset). Started in 2002, it’s a unique place as despite “only” being a take-out place it is quite chef-driven with an owner/chef from France with a background in fine dining. The menu is seasonal driven and changes every quarter with salads and sandwiches. They are also well known for their potato puffs.
It was a beautiful day today to sit outside and enjoy a lamb salad.

“Carbonara” pizza–actually bacon, eggs, mozz, scallions, parsley. From Little Star Pizza, Albany, CA.
Homemade lentil soup.
I used a new brand of lentils this time and the lentils turned really dark for some reason. I bought the lentils recently and they taste fine, they just look darker than usual.
A light post-workout pre-potluck lunch of leftovers: salmon from last night, napa & bok choy from a week ago, just briefly stir-fried with sesame oil, ginger & a splash o’ urrster sawce, and toasted sesame seeds.
Smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and sweet onion on Guinness Irish Soda Bread.
The bread was delicious with the salmon!
