What's for lunch (2026)

I’m now at the mall having a lunch break. Mall food is right up there with root canal surgery in my books so I settled for Indian food. How can you screw it up? The restaurant I went to had a spinach dish clearly marked palak paneer. Since I like spinach and paneer that’s what I asked for but what I got was chana palak. I love chickpeas too but when I dig in expecting paneer and got chickpeas I was mildly disappointed. Oh well at least it tasted good.

And a gratuitous picture of jelly shoes I found in the shoe store. I haven’t seen them since the 80s! Now they have sparkles!

I had fun playing in the kitchen this morning, and made John Wayne casserole for lunch. For an 8x8 pan I make a half recipe of meat and creamy topping on a base of 2 C homemade Bisquick equivalent, and top with the shredded cheeses about 10 minutes before the end.

Bag salad. Sliced mango - tis the season.

The other half-pound of the meat/onion with taco seasoning and tomato/peppers (omitting the corn), will be used for Mexican stuffed peppers next week.

A lil sampler plate of what was leftover from last night’s feast maroulo, tzatziki & pilaf after returning from the annual downtown APIDA festival.

We saw a fun performance by a NJ Sri Lankan dance troupe,

but forewent any food, as there were only two food trucks — a local Persian offerings a bit too similar offerings to our dinner last night, and an Indian truck.

We actually bumped into the Lebanese/Indian couple we had over for dinner yesterday, and they recommended a table selling samosas, but we were still stuffed at the time.
