What's for lunch (2026)

My lunch from Saturday…i was home late after a haircut and my usual Wegmans shop after my haircut. I knew I wouldn’t last until last night’s dinner, so a Scooby Snack late lunch was quickly thrown together.

Manchego, quince paste, and Marcona almonds, toasted baguette slices with fig jam, goat cheese, and a balsamic drizzle, and red grapes. Tided me over quite nicely.

Roast beef and Swiss on rye. There was eye of round roast on sale, and I made some roast beef with it - seared in pan, roasted in low 225 degree oven until 130F, cooled in fridge, and sliced against the grain with meat slicer.

Had some jambon de Paris from the fancy butcher box so made basically a jambon beurre with some freshly baked sourdough. So good!

Warm weather, headed for hot, has arrived. Today was mango, cara-cara orange, banana, and strawberry tossed in Brianna’s poppyseed dressing and served on Good Culture cottage cheese.

Toasted ham and cheese: two slices of sourdough, one spread with Roland Dijon and one with Duke’s mayonnaise, smoked Black Forest ham, provolone stagianato, and sliced Campari tomato. Basic but delicious.

Grilled cheese and leftover brisket on sourdough, side O’ chips. Melty cheddar on the inside, crispy cheddar fricco one the outside.

Fried egg sandwich with runny egg, bacon and cheddar on sourdough. Doesn’t get better! Sorry for the weird pic.

I’ve said it before, and I’m quite sure I’l say it again: Even ugly sushi can taste great!

Boring but safe(*) and tasty. Pulled pork and pepper cojack toasted cheese on my usual honey wheat.

(*) Safe in the sense that I could complete and eat in 15 mins or so as I needed to dash.

An onion pie of sorts, called cudderuni, a Sicilian semolina bread. This was filled with sautéed onions, Swiss chard, hot pepper sausage, black olives , mozzarella cubes and tomato jam. It’s absolutely delicious, and I look forward to the remaining part. This lends itself to multiple vegetable combinations, sautéed savoy cabbage would be a plus!

Looks like the perfect travel companion, even though, as a rule, I’m against eating lunch on the hoof!

Perfectly browned too!
