Today’s lunch was dal,
Cream of crab from the Friday Lenten fish fry supper yesterday (I bought a quart to go.)
The soup offering rotates every week of lent. So far they’ve all been excellent - Maryland crab, cream of crab, lobster bisque.
Another killer sangueech: Aldi’s applewood smoked bacon, Sam’s Club roti chicken (thigh & breast meat), perfect avocado, mayo & red chile pesto, romaine leaf.
This time on TJ’s sourdough, which is a better vehicle for this combo than the bistro bread from Aldi.
Very nice lunch at Bun Mee https://bunmee.co in the Marina at a beautiful day with perfect weather for some shopping in that area
Lemongrass pork banh mi - grilled lemongrass pork, garlic mayo, shaved onion, pickled carrots & daikon, cucumber, jalapeno, herb mix, toasted baguette
Crispy egg rolls - ground pork, woodear mushrooms, glass noodles, shredded carrots, onions, nuoc cham dipping sauce
Vietnamese cream cloud - vietnamese coffee, rich soft whip, 5-spice powder
Strawberry-lychee tea
Another fritata! Clean out the fridge scallions, sad kale and a single old potato, a bit of cheddar that was on deep.discount. Last of the brown bread and some crsipy bacon for the win!
Cauliflower salad, capers, carrots, olives, vinaigrette.
Salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion and chives, milk bread pain de mie.
Japanese style fluffy egg salad, Kewpie, milk bread.
Mixed salad greens , Castelfranco radicchio, watercress and frisée, vinaigrette.
can just imagine how good that was!
Very nice multi-course lunch! Much better than my usual sandwich! ![]()
Thanks BG, I enjoy cauliflower salad and I also have enough for a gratin which sounds appealing on this rainy day.
Cauliflower gratin, cheddar Mornay sauce, dash hot sauce, finely diced hard boiled egg. Topped with toasted breadcrumbs and almonds.
Salad with walnut oil and tarragon vinegar.
Lovely salad! Walnut oil makes every salad special ![]()
And a sprinkling of Fleur de Sel…I had walnuts in freezer downstairs but made an executive decision not to get them…next time!
I’m intrigued by the Vietnamese kumquat hot sauce you’ve been eating. Do you make it yourself or do you buy it?
I discovered this magic condiment at a large Vietnamese market in Philly when we spent a semester there in '24.
We were just there to grab one of their fantastic banh mis, and I was intrigued by the sauce.
It’s got a very nice heat level, heavy on the citrus, garlic, fish sauce…
I’ve gifted a couple of bottles to friends already — former CH buttertart (and fellow Canuck) missed her chance when she canceled dinner plans in NYC, and I am def getting MOAR next time we’re back in Philly, as we’re down to a 1/3 of the bottle
. Stuff lasts forever, too!
It really is delicious, and so unusual!
Thanks! I will have to investigate and see if I can find some in Ottawa…
I’d send you a bottle if shipping to CA weren’t so ridic expensive. Probz twice the price of the sauce ![]()
