How were the fish and chips? My husband is always on a quest. In Bodega Bay, we usually go to the Fishetarian. We tried Rocker Oysterfellers at the Wharf a while ago, and had an unbelievably terrible experience!
I don’t generally post negative reviews, but since you asked…
We were both surprised how tasteless the fish was. The fish had a good fry, with a good crunchy/crispy coating. Just had no flavor, whatsoever.
The fries were excellent however, and the room was quite pleasant with a nice water view.
We’ve had good food in the restaurant proper.
Oh well…Thanks. We also like Betty’s in Santa Rosa. Love their clam chowder!
The Fishetarian, that’s it!!!
My wife got hooked on Fish n’ Chips there, 20+ years ago. Don’t think it was same name then, and it was really just a shack with a few outdoor benches.
The Fish pieces were HUGE, overlapping the paper plates. Juicy and tasty and still reasonably priced. We would cruise up HWY 1 from SF just for the drive, and to get our fill of fried fish.
Mixed tempura - photo taken after we had already snaffled a few pieces.
Nasi goreng, served with some chicken satay skewers.
Curry laksa.
We had also ordered char koay teow which was weirdly served right at the beginning and we were so hungry we demolished it before I remembered to take a photo.
Crab cake made from some wonderful jumbo lump crab from the Chesapeake, courtesy of my DD. The crab pieces were so large that it barely held together. I had to use a pastry ring to bake them. I made crab salad out of most of it.
Fisherman’s Cove is our go to for Fish & Fries (can’t really call them “Chips”). It is the only place around that my Cornish Friend will go to. Just order the Regular Fish and “Chips” not the Halibut.
They have good BBQ Oysters, Fish Stew and big bottles of Pliny too.
The Breading looks like a No Go for me, should be Battered for Fish and “Chips”.
They should change suppliers from Sysco to BiRite Foodservice Distributors.
That looks delicious!
Thank you, awesome crab meat, don’t have to do much to it!
Would you mind posting a summary of your method? My hubby was born in Baltimore and I usually make crab cakes for holidays, but I don’t think I quite hit the mark. I try to use as little filler as possible, but they inevitably fall
apart. Yours look delectable.
This recipe is excellent, the only one my DD and I make. We make it exactly as written. The description includes “ little filler”. My son has also made these in a countertop oven and the results are perfect.
My bake time is less than the timing in the recipe as I’m using convection bake. I use a silicone baking mat on the cookie sheet to act as a little insulation as the baking temperature is very high, I bake on a stone.
Regular lump rather than jumbo is probably a better choice for the crab cakes but the jumbo makes a superb crab salad. It’s a special treat! Hope you get to try the recipe!
Holy crab! Those look faboski!
They are but will spoil you for all others !
I wanted to do a little ‘last minute’ sandal shopping (hard to believe we only have two weeks left here ), which required us to head west… and which also happens to be in the direction of the Italian market. Besides the ginormous array of products and a salumi & formaggi counter, it also has a lovely trattoria with a small patio that is very popular for lunch.
The Vitello Tonnato sounded tempting, but we also wanted the lasagna, so we decided to “go light” & share the vegetarian antipasti instead
The lasagna al ragù was absolute perfection, and we managed to snarf it all up
whereas most of the cheese & about half of the veg came home with us. We also picked up another bottle of Zibibbo, a lovely Calabrian rosato, a mozza di bufala, and more of those Sicilian tomatoes
I’m not used to such a heavy lunch, so I may have to take a siesta now
Thanks. We haven’t been there because it’s always such a mob scene, but we’ll have to try it sometime.
Yes they are busy because they are good. The line usually moves very quickly.
If you can go during the week or in the winter lines are quite short.
