What's for Dinner #119 - the Strawberry Edition! - June 2025

After a fairly late and pretty heavy lunch I wasn’t sure if I was up for yet another meal out, but we’d swung by what used to be our favorite Greek place earlier in the day (i.e. before the ginormous lunch) for 8pm, and my PIC seemed eager to go out: he gets kinda antsy when we only have a limited amount of time left here, and we’d already planned on a dinner at home today. Lastly, the nice weather was practically begging us to leave the house.

The place was srsly hopping for a Tuesday, and the person we’d made a rez with had told us that they don’t take rezzies for outside.

We arrived on time, then stood around in the restaurant for a good 5 min until someone finally seated us — inside, of course.

It took at least another 10 min for someone to take our order (drinks & food), and then we sat there for another 10 min waiting for our beers. My boo saw a 2-top open up outside, so we took our stuff and snagged it so nobody else could. It hadn’t yet been cleared of our predecessor’s debris yet, i.e. an empty wine bottle, glasses, napkins.

And we sat. And sat. The two dudes working their tushies off seemed confused, and I fully understand that it was our mistake that we didn’t alert either of them to our move outside…. but they couldn’t possibly have thought that we got up and left entirely, after already having put our order in.

One of them finally stopped by to ask if everything was alright, and we replied that the stuff still on the table wasn’t ours, and that we had moved outside, where we originally wanted to sit, anyway.

More confusion. Eventually, the stuff was taken away, and we got a new plate with ONE napkin & silverware. Nobody bothered to wipe off the table, so my PIC used a wet towelette and did it himself :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: The dude with whom we ordered showed up to confirm our order once again (we’d now been at the restaurant for 45 min sans drinks). I was pretty annoyed at this point and had lost my appetite. The tarama was ok,

the tzatziki heavy on the garlic,

and the chirino souvlakia again better than the arni souvlakia, which was on the dry side. I admit I’m spoiled by my PIC’s fabulous lamb kebabs. I had a couple of pieces of each, and that was that.

We had them pack up the meat & tzatziki. When we paid, the waiter asked if we wanted an ouzo — pretty common here, just like getting a grappa/limoncello at Italian places after dinner on the house.

They brought out ONE ouzo. ONE shot glass of ouzo :flushed: I should’ve asked whether it was for my boo or me, but at that point I was ready to just get outta there. We shared it, of course.

Looks like we’ll have to find a new favorite Greek place in Berlin. Bummer, man.
