What's for lunch? (2025)

Hopefully it’s for a planned investigation? Hope you’re ok. Wishing you a smooth recovery.

Leftover bonanza - leftover roast chicken carcass, leftover random sausage, leftover harissa baked beans, leftover brown rice with quinoa, garnished with cherry tomatoes and washed down with some chilled white wine.

Lunch with our cousin was pleasant enough. My sis & BIL had picked her up at home, and we met up with them at a restaurant at a castle nearby.

My cousin did not want to sit inside, despite it being freaking windy & chilly, bc the dining room is located in the basement, and she loves the view from the restaurant’s garden, from which you can see a pretty lake.

And so we sucked it up for our cousin’s sake, put on our jackets & I wrapped a blanket around my bare legs

The setup in general was really strange — you had to order at a counter outside a small set of steps leading to the basement kitchen, then stuff was brought to the table by the server.

First up, olive ciabatta with … curry butter with raisins. Nope nope nope NOPEEEEEEE.

I had only my second rhubarb spritz of the season (why, lousy!), and ordered the “Spicy Asian shrimp with avocado and orange salad.” The shrimp weren’t spicy at all  — which I admittedly expected to be the case in the Northern German boonies, but the sauce was sweet. Like, very sweet :expressionless:

I managed to brush off most of it, added salt, and enjoyed the avocado slices with the salad garnish & had the orange for ‘dessert.’

Our cousin was very happy with her Geschnetzeltes (sliced beef in gravy),

Look at that face! Ready to dig in

and my sister really enjoyed her asparagus with potatoes, bread crumbs, and melted butter.

Our dudes both got the BBQ burger, which had seemingly an entire pound of sautéed onion on it, and was overdone. Fries were salty, but good.

We dropped our cousin off at her place, as my sis & BIL had to leave to visit his dad.

Trip back was much faster, with far less traffic.

When we were about to get on the subway, a poor woman with a walker tripped leaving the train & face-planted on the platform! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

A few Samaritans helped her off the ground and were able to get her to a bench. Thankfully, an off-duty nurse happened to show up just a few minutes later. The woman had a bad bruise on her cheekbone and an abrasion  Relieved to see that she was in good hands & being taken care of, we got on the train & made our way home.

Your cousin looks like she’s VERY happy with her meal, and I’m SO glad the woman with the walker was helped by the nurse.

We felt so bad for that poor woman, but also wouldn’t have quite known how to help.

Meat stuffed pitas, sautéed in a dry skillet, pickled red onions, green salad with sprouts. And the first of the season lemonade, so refreshing as the sun has come out for five minutes!
In Lebanon, the beef/lamb with appropriate seasonings are called arayes, but to ensure continued friendship with Lebanon, the meat in this pita was a meatloaf mix seasoned with Carolina Gold BBQ sauce, and therefore not an araye…just a wannabe. But a good one , I’ve also made chopped salmon and found that very pleasing as well. I think there are likely many meat combos that would work in pitas.

I hope it settles down without any major issues. Wishing you all the best.

You really oughta open up a restaurant, Mr. Happy.

And you should call it “Happy,” bc anyone eating there will be.

Technically breakfast, but felt more brunchy/lunchy: a shellfish quiche from a fish stand at the FM. Very delicately seasoned, with a nice hint of lemon.

And a refreshing apple spritz to warsh it all down :yum:

A Nicoise-inspired composed salad, enjoyed on our back deck overlooking the yard. Romaine, h.b. eggs, Yukon Gold B-sized halves, cherry tomatoes, green beans, large scoop of canned tuna, sliced ripe olives. Thousand Island dressing. Crackers beside, for crunch. Dessert, not pictured - chocolate brownie with vanilla frozen yogurt ice cream.

“Twins” - similar here, minus capers, plus Romaine.
