What's for lunch? (2025)

The Lidls in the UK have a ‘Deluxe’ own brand range which has some pretty good items. Haven’t been for awhile but I remember some very nice Deluxe range Italian prepared foods from the chiller cabinet.

My lunches for the rest of the week: red lentils, brown rice, and this mint that needed to get used.

The store has only been opened a few months and I have not been there all that often as it’s not that convenient. It has a mix of their own products and standard supermarket offerings. I like it as there are generally very few shoppers there! It’s about 5 minutes from an Aldi but I’m an infrequent shopper there as well. It has an in house bakery with less than compelling items , I did buy a pasteis de nata there and was disappointed but not surprised. Will keep you posted.

Mushroom galette recipe from Everyday Dorie @ Dorie Greenspan. There will be lots of mushrooms in our menu. I got 5lbs from a mushroom farm.

Delicious smooshi from our favorite purveyor. My PIC really wanted the lazy white tuna (panko-breaded & deep fried), but I was pretty stuffed once I was done with my menu. Instead, we got the grilled shrimp with green asparagus, miso & unagi sauce. Much lighter & quite delish, too

Stuff we didn’t get, but it’s so purtty to look at

To each their own. I strongly prefer the taste and texture of leaner pastrami, brisket, corned beef etc.

I made another batch of sai ua

Linked up.

With cucumber and sticky rice.

Carnitas tacos again, from La Mission in Berkeley. Much better than the ones at Cholita Linda that I had last week.

I see that I posted about them earlier this year.

As I perversely refuse to buy more food, my lunch today was sourdough discard crackers and (bad Trader Joe’s) brie.

Beggars can’t be choosers. Usually, the sammich selection at German Raststätten / Service Plazas along the Autobahn is large & of decent quality.

Perhaps the holiday today had something to do with the dearth of options.

At least they warmed up the baguette & melted the cheese properly
