Where do you get your gunciale in SF and what was the price (Eataly is the only place which seems to have always but at a quite (too) high price - so always looking for alternative places) ?

Sigh! That look wonderful! My lunch was plain….and dessert was purchased chocolate cookies. :face_holding_back_tears:

Berkeley Bowl has it, if you’re visiting this side of the Bay. I don’t know the price.

It’s pretty widely available in SF. This one was from a piece I got from Molinari deli in North Beach. I don’t remember how much it was per pound but it was an Italian import. I’ve also seen it at Luke’s Local in North Beach IIRC. Recently I got some imported Italian guanciale from Guerra Quality Meats in the Parkside, and another place that has it is is Golden Natural Foods in Duboce Triangle. The ones I saw at Golden Natural Foods were domestic IIRC. The Fatted Calf in the Ferry Building should have it as well.

Our beloved fish griller was completely sold out by the time we got to the market, so we had to pivot. Our PGH guest desired a proper döner kebab with all the fixins & trio of sauces, and he was very satisfied with Hasir’s döner, a small local chain that started off in Kreuzberg (the hood we’re staying in this summer) in 1970, and has since expanded to 6 locations around the city since. It’s a reliable place for Turkish food.

We felt like a gyros pita, and since one of Berlin’s best Greek restos happens to be just around the corner, we got ourselves one. I asked for no fries, and instead was given a ginormous sandwich with a generous amount of lahanosalata. The meat was fantastic quality: no gristle, no fat, juicy and very well seasoned, and the pita had just the right amount of tzatziki. We were happy

Ukrainian Srynyky. Pancakes made with tworg cheese and some accompanying homemade blueberry sauce. With DH feeling better it was time to have brunch. Those are so delicious.

Pulled pork - I roasted (350 F, lid on, sprinkled with a commercial seasoning ) a 2 pound frozen chunk - a quarter of the whole boneless shoulder that was on special for $2.99/pound a couple weeks ago. Super easy, and with windows open my husband didn’t complain about the 3.5 hours of cooking smells. Plenty of leftovers for a couple more lunches. Years ago I researched “can I cook pork directly from freezer” and found a guideline to expect needing 50 percent longer (than thawed /fresh)to reach proper temps. This article says cook twice as long.

Lunch yesterday was LIDL’s frozen coconut shrimp, short on coconut and shrimp, long on batter. Actually, they weren’t too bad, nice and crispy but I won’t be purchasing again.
Dessert was almost tiramisu, chocolate crème patisserie, rum and chocolate.

For lunch, my ‘funky’ rendition of a Surf-and-Turf Ramen Soup Noodle using Hong Kong style Prawn Won-Ton and Chinese style, Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Shank. Garnished with Mung Bean Sprouts, Shitake Mushroom and Scallions.

Worked out surprisingly well with delicious results

Are there other Lidl products you recommend? We have one nearby, and I rarely ever shop (as there’s an Aldi right next to it, which I know better).

OTOH, the products are probably different from what you have in the States…
