Early lunch today, avo on sourdough toast, pickled onions, crispy salad vinaigrette, Grillo pickles.
And for dessert, the last of yesterday’s Tiramiwho…two layers pastry cream, ladyfingers dipped in espresso, sifted cocoa. I made the pastry cream with eggnog, a splash rum, vanilla, a pinch cinnamon.
This was delicious, this shortcut version is mighty good!
Carnitas tacos from the place that has the best carnitas in Berkeley (La Mission on University)–tender, juicy chunks mingled with crisp bits. I had two, but forgot to take the photo before I ate one of them.
So yesterday I was watching my Saturday afternoon cooking shows on my local PBS station and it was either America’s Test Kitchen or Cook’s Country that featured a french bread pizza recipe that triggered a visceral response in me to make it ASAP. This morning, I went to my local grocery store and found a loaf of one of those foil wrapped garlic French bread loaves that had been marked down from 3.29 to 0.29 due to an imminent expiration date and a package of pepperoni for 0.98, which led me to believe that the universe really wanted me to make this recipe today. French bread, marinara, shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan, pepperoni. Very satisfying on a somewhat chilly and somewhat rainy day.
Acini de Pepe with grated onion, carrot, zucchini, mushrooms, a few tablespoons of sausage meat, evoo. Sautéed a few minutes, then added homemade chix broth , pasta, bay leaf. Add diced chicken for a couple minutes, finish with basil slivers and parm.
I’m home alone for the next 12 days and only worked a half day today. Ben and Jerry’s for lunch because it was on sale. It would have been fiscally irresponsible not to…
