I quite liked it, it has been and will be repeated.
I’ve just started having gumbo with potato salad instead of rice sometimes. The cool creaminess of the potato salad goes really nicely with gumbo.
Your meal looks delicious. The salad looks wonderful. I just checked my Costco to see if they have the Caesar Salad; sadly, they do not.
Her figs are beautiful and very mouthwatering to myself.
I do not care for cooked avocado at all. Did it one time; the avocado was way too sweet for me when baked. I decided I was not going to cook it that way again. But you know, Different palates like different things, and I am so glad for that.
Dinner over 3 days: All were very tasty!
#1— Baked trout, steamed 'gus and COTC
#2—FF Cottage Cheese, grape tomatoes and a pinch of black pepper,
mango ice and raspberries for dessert. It was a very hot and smoky day.
#3—Asian fried rice with cabbage and carrot
The way I know that someone liked something spontaneously made is that it comes up as a suggestion a few days later (things that shouldn’t reappear fade into ignominy). So tonight we revisited the pasta florentine I made for mom last week for the first time
I added smoked salmon to half, which was an inspired idea on my sis’s part. We finished all of that tweak, but I saved a full portion of the vegetarian pasta for mom for another day when we’re going meat-heavy.

After dinner, I started on no-churn coffee and chocolate mint ice creams for my cousins who are coming to dinner tomorrow (dinner is being catered – a giant platter of biryani from my favorite place). Disaster struck in a too-hot kitchen with the cream going from not quite whipped straight to butter, but I think I salvaged it after some remedial action, or at least I hope I did. I also baked brownies for them while the mixture was chilling in between being whipped to thicken.
I’m not supposed to do that anymore but here I am…
Tonight we had Bharli Wangi, a stuffed baby eggplant dish with peanuts, coconut, chiles, and tamarind. Well spiced and very comforting on a day that couldn’t make up its mind, weatherwise. Rice and pea pulao and yogurt to accompany.
that sounds delicious!
Thank you! We really enjoyed it!
Another seasonal favorite. Chicken and green bean stir-fry from Woks of Life.
There will be freshly baked peach pie for dessert.
Yum!
that pie is gorgeous. Peach is my favorite pah.
Seared and roasted pork/chorizo, garlic, onion, cilantro patty, aji verde.Cotc, s&p, pimentone. Salad of little gem, piquillo peppers, red onion, a melange of pickled veg, sherry vinegar & oo dressing. Gins.
Thank you! It was delicious!
I’ve been trying to up my pie game. Today was a win (not always the case).
I’ve been watching tons of FB Reels/Tiktok videos about Korean dishes and also this one young woman’s vids about vegan dishes in general. Intrigued by Dubu Jorim - braised tofu - I looked at a few recipes and had the BF make it for us. Most recipes slice the tofu in blocks, but the vegan chick tears firm tofu into chunks so they get nice and craggy. they get tossed in corn starch and sauteed until crispy, then braised in a gochugaru/soy/ginger/brown sugar/mirin/sesame oil and minced garlic sauce. I had him add some of the liquid from my homemade kimchi too, and served the braised tofu over rice with some of the kimchi, green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds.
really delicious- sweet, spicy, salty, and the texture was somewhat akin to tender chicken thigh chunks. BF added an egg omelet to his as just tofu wouldn’t cut it for him (i had a sliver in my bowl too). This is definitely going into the rotation, maybe with noodles next time.
Leek risotto! Did you find the recipe online or in one of his cookbooks? I will be getting leeks in my CSA later this season and I love risottos.
