BF wanted one thing, I another. He used my Portuguese pepper sauce to make himself soup with chicken stock, tofu, egg, a little rice, etc. I used almost the last of my kimchi (which I believe I made in December 2022 - time for a new batch!) to make kimchi fried rice with a crispy egg. We were both happy.
i would never be able to stop!
We love the You Suck at Cooking Guy!!
Lol! Same problem here! For that reason, we don’t have them very often.
Lentil bowl (cooked, then briefly marinated with red wine vinegar, honey and onions) with red beets, pastrami, apple, pea shoots and some sour cream mixed with horseradish
Inspired by this David Chang advertisement (which I watched a few times to make sure he was actually pronouncing it “horshradish,” which he was), I made a salad. It’s definitely my favorite salad of the month, since it has many of my favorite things in it. Eggs, shrimp, peas (these are not actually my favorite, but I had to use them up 'cause they were getting starchy), radishes, lemon, sorrel, horseradish root and horseradish leaves.
We almost had BLTs. Summer tomatoes
Dinner on Thursday nights are usually later since I work in the office that day then its CSA pick up day. So by the time I get home and get myself sorted it’s nearly 8:00 by the time I have dinner. This week I had something I could throw together quickly. I had a couple of chicken skewers I bought at Costco and could reheat in the microwave for a couple of minutes, sliced tomato and cucumber from my CSA and tzatziki and a pita from the Persian grocery store.
Seared and roasted chicken thigh, aji verde sauce, cilantro. Fried potatoes, peppers and onions. Everything was liberally seasoned with s&p, oregano and pimenton. Mixed greens salad, pickled carrots, green olives, avocado, red onion, sherry vinegar & oo dressing, grated manchego cheese. Wine.
Roasted apricot & honey ice cream. Very good, but rich and almost too buttery.
I could eat that with day old diapers and still be happy.
Every dish needs loving
Late dinner at a “Japanese Brasserie” - we hadn’t planned on that fancy a meal on a lowly Thursday, but a lot of kitchens close by 10pm (wut! in Berlin!?! the 24 hour city??? ), and this was en route to a Thai place we weren’t going to reach in time. It was also sort of on my list of places to try.
We split the crispy oyster mushrooms, salmon carpaccio, beef tataki, and 2 hamachi nigiri…. then ordered more of the nigiri bc the fish was that good. Another round of hamachi, and 2 rounds of toro. Scotch and soda for me, a Hendricks martini for my PIC that was way too wet (tho to be fair, he hadn’t specified the desired dryness) – which our fantastic waiter immediately picked up on, took it away & brought a new, much better martini. Really outstanding service & very good food.
Last night’s dinner was Creamy Rice Chicken Casserole. The recipe came from Catherine’s Plates on youtube. I liked it, but Sunshine did not. She told me she would have preferred I use noodles over rice in this casserole. So after we finish up the leftovers, that will be it for this dish.
Look at that fatty tomato!
That looks heavenly
It really was incredibly good. Much more than we planned to spend on a lowly Thursday, tho
Worth it, I guess? #YOLO n@

Local LA/Mexi place (north of Boston) tonight.
Margarita and a not shown Paloma, messy queso dip bowl in foreground.
Warm spicy shrimp and roasted corn salad
We split a taco order, fried pork belly for DH and shrimp for me
Food was very good, especially the shrimp and corn salad. Very nice spice to it.
I split my taco into 2 servings. It also comes with beans and rice.
We pretty much ate it all.
