Two nights ago we grilled out with friends at a local park playground. Grilled cheesy brats and hot dogs, fresh watermelon, corn on the cob, coleslaw, and sweet kale salad. Simple but hit the spot. S’mores for dessert.
Last night’s dinner was a “Baked Corn Casserole”. I modified a “Glen and Friends” recipe (youtube). I’ve made this before and keep tweaking the spicing a bit. I also added more chopped broccoli this time. Sunshine really liked it. So much so that she asked if we could have the leftovers tonight. My answer was “Of course!!”. Re-heating leftovers… yes!!
Stirfried beef and asparagus with jasmine rice. Kind of meh tonight which is odd because this recipe has served me well in the past. Best part of dinner was the Beefeater gin and Fever Tree tonic.
Another filet of sockeye salmon, low-cooked at 275° for 20 minutes, glazed with a combo char siu/spicy-sweet chili sauce for the last half of cooking. Served on sauteed spinach with a mango salsa on top.
It’s Bastille Day. I managed to scrape together the fixin’s for coq au vin, served over butter noodles, a warm French roll and butter. Salad with vinaigrette dressing. A g&t and wine. C’était délicieux!
i get to go to a friend’s Bastille Day dinner tomorrow night (yep, a day late) - he’s making choucroute garnie with homemade sauerkraut, and other delights.
I. can’t. wait.
My parents flew in for the weekend! It was a gorgeous summer day and we ate on the deck. I made falafel and fattoush and baba ganouj. We supplemented with purchased hummus, toum, eggplant/pepper spread, flatbreads, feta, and olives. Good summer food. And sangria. Which doesn’t go, but also does
Met up with a Canadian friend, her boo & daughter eh at the 10th anniversary of Bite Club, a local street food event. It was pretty busy, but we got there early like good middle-aged peeps will, and so the lines weren’t terrible just yet. We immediately spotted an Argentinian booth where we grabbed a bbq platter: rib-eye, chorizo, sirloin, tater, chimichurri, grilled tomato, sauce. Seemed like a good start. Was.
our friend and her boo got some Pakistani stuff I didn’t photograph and forgot what it was. We were hoping to get a buttermilk fried chicken burger or pan-fried jiao zi as our second course, but both booths had lines around the block, whereas an Indian booth offering dosas was practically deserted. Unrightfully so, as the dosa with tandoori chicken ordered EXTRA spicy was a flavor party in our mouths. The cilantro and coconut chutneys both were absolutely perfect with it. Sadly, the pic doesn’t do it justice.
The overall scene was starting to get hip pretty quickly, so we left for drinks at a small beer garden along the road where we eventually lost the hubster who needed to get home so he could ride 100k on his bike today in the debbil’s armpit , followed soon by the daughter who had younger, more interesting folks to meet up with.
Felt like soaking up some of that beer & swung by our favorite “pizza” place & shared a chanterelle slice, then immediately washed that down with two margaritas. No, nobody got head (IYKYK).
My PIC’s gonna try n make his way to the farmers market for more of that incredible sourdough in a bit, whereas I won’t be leaving our pad until temps go down for the eve. We discovered a newly opened (as in yesterday!) Greek place just down the street from us, which is a rarity in this hood. Most Greek places are concentrated in the southwest of town & quite a haul from where we are. Might hafta give it a shot for dinner tonight. Be great if it were solid.
