What's For Dinner #86 - the Apples, & Cider, & DONUTS, Oh MY! Edition - October 2022

No idea, because I’ve never had A1. This has Guinness in it.

A quick cheesesteak panino with caramelized onions and cheddar on When Pigs Fly sourdough bread. Onions caramelized, beef sauteed with s/p, and then the entire sandwich put together and cooked/pressed in the same small skillet. Makes for easy cleaning.

The dregs of a bag of Ruffles alongside.

Does it taste beer-y? AI which I’ve only had a couple of times, is quite sour, and I believe has a strong worcestershire-y flavor.

Not at all. Ingredient list is:

Tomatoes, sugar (pectin, citric acid), apple juice, vinegar, onion, Irish stout 5%, sultanas, golden syrup, treacle, tarragon, ses salt, mustard, pepper, spices.

So an Irish stout; not Guinness. And couple of sweeteners although I think the treacle, while still sweet-ish, is closer to molasses.

And for what it’s worth, I get no hint of any tarragon. LOL

Last night’s planned dinner was jettisoned in favor of bar food, al fresco, on a warm and sunny autumnal late-afternoon. Nice.

WFD tonight was spinach and four-cheese calzone. There was homemade tomato-basil dipping sauce, and a salad of the very last of our sweet garden cukes for this year.

RIGHT? Thank you, it’s good to know I’m not alone

Seen them both! The Visit got a bad wrap but I enjoyed it. Same with The Village. Just hated Lady in the Water!

It’s pasta night. Mini penne, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, red and orange baby bells, asparagus, alfredo sauce, parm and parsley. Salad, onion, tomato (Sweet Millions from the garden), cucumber, oo and balsamic, dried basil. Toasted baguette with garlic, parm and parsley butter. Negroni and wine.

Japchae at home — realized it’s been over a year since I last made it.

I didn’t have any mushrooms (and feeling lazy about soaking dried ones), so I went with broccoli slaw and the last of the garlicky sautéed spinach.

New for me, I added egg at the end in the form of an omelette cut into strips.

Lots leftover, which is always a good thing where Japchae is concerned!

That twist at the end of the Visit - he is a mastermind!

That looks delicious. I love beef tongue and am now sad I’ve not had it in a long while.

Great expectations…. are bound to not be met. Timing & temp both were off for the hens – they weren’t entirely done when the thermometer said they were, so it was an incremental dinner of salad, duck fat hot crashed potatoes that didn’t crisp up as nicely as last time I made them, and eventually one of the hens to share. Flavor was ok, and it was juicy, but I don’t think I’ll be getting that farm’s whole birds again. OTOH, their wings are quite good.

Very nice. You must be having better air quality than we are. It’s at 194 aqi. Big yuck. No one is eating al fresco. Not even walking al fresco.

Natch. 204 now.

Well, it was 82 on Monday, the afternoon we were out. This afternoon it is 182. :unamused:
