Well, life happened and I haven’t posted for a long bit! Some medical things, then a family visit after a 3 yr politically driven hiatus… Summer is also particularly busy bc there is always yard work to do. In any case, here is WFD, w/o pix yet. Possibly will be added!
A riff on a Ming Tsai recipe (spinach/tofu napoleans). I’m turning it into a salad instead. We made this once or twice when I got the book 20 yrs ago. I recall the dressing making the dish. It’s a combo of rice vin/miso/sambal oelek/pickled ginger/sesame oil etc. Since I already know that my picky older son won’t eat this, I also baked a sourdough olive bread. That way we can have salad and bread, and he can have bread and cheese. Oh the things we do for our children. My lovely picky eater is going back to college in about 5 weeks. So I will indulge him and then we will eat more things without substitutions once he is gone again.
Tonight’s dinner a rainbow trout fillet with a Greek salad. I was a little heavy handed with the feta cheese but I had a little left in a container that was already opened and I wanted to use it up,
In a nutshell, a temporary parting of ways due to differing ideologies and not very respectful conversations. And then a forced (by the children thru guilt) reunion.

I admire your apparent restraint with the tots.

I made chicken yakitori (The Kitchn - way too salty) using CSA spring onions, sesame butter asparagus, and sushi rice fried rice with Soycutash, peas, carrots, scrambled egg white, and hot dog😂
Needn’t have bothered with trying to make the fried rice attractive to my kiddo. He refused to try it and barely ate any chicken. We’ll try something else tomorrow.
The real star of the day was the potato and broccoli “something” I made earlier - somewhere between a kuku, tortilla, and the original inspiration - IKEA’s potato cakes
I had some random vegetables to use up from my last CSA box before I have to pick up the next one. Red Thai curry with kale, mushrooms, summer squash, peppers and snow pea pods. Served with tuna a friend caught yesterday - I didn’t need to cook it.
