Sorry for your loss . I was working on a house today . Said hello to the neighbor who was washing his vehicle. I noticed that he was slumped over when I came back around to grab some tools . I made the 911 call . RIP Doug.

I’m so sorry to hear this news @gracieggg - I remember you saying he wasn’t doing great. May he Rest In Peace, but may his memory live on robustly. Take care, and remember time will soften your grief.

Salad tonight to use up produce. Romaine, arugula, endive, basil, fresh English peas, fresh corn, shallots, figs, TJs’ toasted Honey Almonds, bacon (because BF), goat cheese, with a balsamic/shallot vinaigrette. It all worked. Cheese toast on the side, mine with zhoug, the BF’s plain until he put pesto on it.

More patties. Mexico Meat Market didn’t have Saltena so I used Goya. I did roll them out a bit, so I am working my way up to making my own.

@gracieggg - My condolences on your loss. Words cannot fill the gap. The traditional Tibetan Buddhist butter lamp cannot either, but to light the way for your Dad here are some.

@emglow101 - Rough duty making that call. In the midst of an emergency doing what needs to be done is itself a distraction. Waiting for services when you know it is too late is a huge burden.

The Bahamian ladies knocking out pastry with an empty wine bottle still haunt me. One of them taught me how to make Southern biscuits. She said an American told her how, but she did it wrong. grin Really outstanding biscuits. The ladies were tickled that some scruffy yachtie wanted to spend the day with them.

Sichuan pork noodles. I used a friend’s homemade peanut crisp, Laoganma chili crisp, and added extra minced ginger, scallions, toasted sichuan peppercorns, bird’s eye chilies, dark soy, and chili & sesame oils. Tomatoes don’t really fit this theme, but we had them and this now qualifies as a salad.
