What's for Dinner #55: The March Forward Into Spring Edition - March 2020

I can’t wait for the leftovers tonight. Going to saute peppers and onions, add a couple of the sausage links and some sauce. Have a nice semolina roll to put it on. Maybe some mozzarella too…

We had takeout ramen, gyoza, and pork belly buns. Trying to help keep our local favorite restaurants afloat. And give the cook/dishwasher at home a break.

Tonight we are celebrating 2 weeks of social distancing, working from home, home schooling and generally dealing with the topsy turvy-ness of this new world in which we find ourselves. Filet mignon seared in cast iron finished in the oven, twice baked potatoes, roasted Brussel sprouts and broccoli. 2016 Whitehall lane Cab to go with. Supernatural brownies for dessert.

I had an ice cream sandwich for dessert and, wow, that hit the spot. We all need a bit more comfort these days. Good thing I just started running to counterbalance.

We had empanadas filled with picadillo and pico de gallo.

Thank you

We continued to support our favorite restaurants by driving 1 1/2 hours round trip to our favorite Szechuan restaurant Chengdu 1 Palace for some fabulous takeout including our usually awesome lobster, shrimp, lamb, spicy baby won tons in chili oil, ants climbing a tree and a new dish of tender pork bellies in chili sauce. It all went great with a 98 point Primitivo.

Yesterday I spent the day at my sister’s (just her and I) and we made fresh pasta, sauced it with TPSTOB, garlic, chopped spinach, and chopped canned razor clams I brought back from Spain last Oct. Holy hell did it turn out good! It was also a fun, relaxing project to do together.

Today the BF recreated our favorite Sun. brunch: Fries, oysters for me (he bought, I shucked), and bloodies (he even pickled the veggies last night for the garnish, and par-fried the potatoes, while i slept!) I was surprised our local fishmonger was open on Sunday, but I’m glad we were able to support them.

Dinner was eggplant parm with (broken record, @emglow101 avert your eyes!) Rao’s marinara, but the Arrabbiata this time. Just as good, but not really spicier, so I’d use them interchangeably. Eggplant was dredged in flour, egged, then rolled in Bob’s Red Mill masa harina for a good crunchy breading. Melty provolone on each slice, and more of that fresh pasta from yesterday. Sausage for the BF, because meat.

I’ve been groovin’ on Paper Plane cocktails lately (made with Rye whiskey, no bourbon in the house)… more tonight.

Happy sheltering-in-place, everyone, stay safe!

Started the day with an early dog walk and a quick check on my down the street elderly neighbor who lives alone. Got some gardening in before the late evening rain. Lunch was tofu lettuce cups (shallots, tofu, snap peas, chopped cabbage, and spicy sauce loaded with ginger) and dinner was freezer dive beef stew and over polenta.
