What's for Dinner #38 - the Spooky Oct '18 Edition

I’m not a fan of eggy flavor and couldn’t taste it here

I call myself a lactose intolerant vegetarian who hates eggs :joy:

A NJ HO member recommended a nearby bahn mi joint. They are nailing sandwiches and while ordering there I picked up some rolls to make this recipe for dinner. As suggested in the bloggers link I am going to try making fresh spring rolls veg style too. My first attempt was laughable.

What is this bahn mi place? I really hope it is near me!!!

Baguette Delight in Edison
No website but you can google their menu. Very reasonable sandwich prices too.

  1. Out “early” from work (meaning 5:15 as opposed to 6:30).
  2. Traffic was hellacious on every highway with THREE (yes, THREE!) accidents on the highways I take home from work. (of course)
  3. Family shit to deal with.
  4. Cats fed.
  5. Comfy clothes. (Finally)
  6. Wine poured. (FINALLY)
  7. Dinner made.

Sirloin flap cut thin sliced steak seasoned with s/p, pan-fried in butter and olive oil. (And before you ask what sirloin flap cut is - I don’t know. Looked good for steak & cheese!) Removed the steak, used the oil/butter mixture to spoon/spread on some rosemary-olive oil bread, along with 3-year old cheddar cheese slices. Back into a hot pan with a press, and boom - dinnah was soived!

Burt’s Chips’ Guinness potato chips alongside. I got them at World Market on a whim - I gotta stop acting on my whims. These sucked. They shall be tossed.

Oh yeah. You can be DAMN sure there was wine. Two of 'em. Full glasses. None of those chintzy 5 oz. pours like at restaurants. The LindaWhit Restaurant knows exactly what its clientele wants in the wine pours.

Really surprised how delicious this was. Came together fast and Im glad I bought the bahn mi rolls because thats 50% of the sandwich magic. The pickled veg are a quickie dip so the next time will taste even better. I didnt bother making the spring rolls.

Wow! It’s the birthday season here! Happy birthday and happy belated to all the October babies.

The plan is for shrimp and stir fried veggies with a pad thai kinda sauce and rice noodles for the man if he wants them… but… he’s working late and if it gets too late I won’t be so excited about peeling and deveining shrimp and we’ll probably just end up at our fave poke place. We’ll see how it goes.

Carbapalooza continues over here… i was not amused when they were out of everything bagels but certainly wasn’t leaving without one! I think this is a whole wheat with whatever on top. Tasty but not the same.
Other half was lunch. Just with some plain tofutti (vegan cream cheese). And random side of cucumbers, bell pepper and the last few olives that landed in my mug and not my mouth. Crazy bubbly kombucha a la carte

Grab a bottle of Trader Joes’ Everything But topping. Its pretty good on
roasted veggies, eggs and lots of other things as well as plain bagels.
