WOW! My turkey meatloaf was tasty but not picture ready😁 that’s a beauty!
Lost a lot of weight over the last year by just walking more and eating less. No diet, no food or drink off the table. Just consume less and burn more cals. Eat anything you want, just less
I’d write a diet book but it would be one page
Scubadoo & ChristinaM had both mentioned cooking scallops from Aldi’s a few weeks ago. Which put the idea in my head. So I bought a frozen package from Aldi’s. Then I saw some at Lidl on sale for $6 so I bought them too. Now I don’t know which is which…
I had a fancy idea of how to cook the scallops. But a very long surprise phone call from a friend nixed that idea. By the time we were done talking I was starving. I patted them dry and cooked in sizzling butter. Once scallops were removed from the pan I let the butter brown a bit more and added some soy sauce* which was poured over the scallops which were atop steamed spinach. Baked sweet potato to round it out.
The scallops were really good! I’m glad you both had posted about the Aldi’s purchase because I wouldn’t have thought to try their frozen scallops otherwise. They were tender as can be and sweet fleshed.
Gives me a new, economical and quick option for dinner - thanks!
*Thought of this since someone here recently commented that butter + soy sauce = what’s not to love?
Aldi actually gets a decent score from Greenpeace
That sounds delicious! How do you think it would freeze? I would love to make it on the weekend and use it later.
Looks like as you said lots of veggies…it really adds depth of flavor as it would to any dish you make.
Very nice crust along the bottom …
The classic British prep using garlic is also to insert a couple of “leaves” of rosemary into the slit. No doubt has its origins in France as, while garlic has been grown in the UK since Roman times, its use was not common until comparitively recently.
Upcoming - free range sirloin steak, bought from the farm in the next county. Saute spuds, green beans
For dessert, Mrs H says she’s making a Nigella Lawson for “berry slump” which she tells me is one of Ms Lawson’s American recipes. It’ll be just strawberries and blueberries as, unbelievably, the supermarket had no raspberries. No raspberries? In September? There has been news stories that, related to the UK leaving the EU, large numbers of foreign pickers have simply not come this year. But I wonder whether our particularly hot summer has also affected crops.
This is basically what I’m doing, with tracking to keep me accountable. For me portion control is not enough though because I am satisfied partly by volume. So I do adjust food choices. I already am active most days. Seems to be working so far.
Excellent idea!
I practically have 1-1.5 meals a day. Not much. Haven’t lost a single pound since I came back from Berlin, and I have 8-10 to go. Sux.
You should be able to wiggle aka dance that off in no time. You’re young and metabolism is high. Don’t get hung up on it. Just have a basic blueprint you can follow without feeling deprived which will kill your willpower over time. It’s not a 3 week program
I love it enough to consider making it with canned tomatoes, but I haven’t tried it.
I don’t know how it would freeze. Something about the oiliness ( “The chutney is cooked when the oil separates from the mixture and rises to the top.” ) makes me wonder if the texture would suffer.
For the record, I’ve kept it longer than three days, and it seemed fine.
That sounds delicious…!
Eating less is one of the measures to take but it’s a bit more complicated than just eating less. I mean, you can still eat 3 meals a day but omit certain things and add other things.
Do you do some moderate exercise? Take it easy with alcohol. Or even better abstain from it for a while. Good luck. Also, don’t worry and don’t keep having negative thoughts and guilt. It has an affect on your progress so think yourself healthy.
So hard when I love my beer (and cheese). Sometimes, for reasons beyond my control, I have to forgo alcohol for a week or 2 and it’s no problem.
I’ve never been “fat” but am pretty sure it’s very possible if I am not careful now. I already feel it after a week into my holiday. The exceptions are 1, hiking holiday and 2, Korea and Japan. Only then I either don’t gain any or even lose weight!
Not that young, and my metabolism is slowing down as I type this
I really can’t eat much less than I am doing now. It just takes for-fucking-ever to get rid of the summer pasta & gelato belly. Boo hiss.
Temps have dropped significantly within just 24 hours, and rain is forecast for the next few days. Yay!
I think we can safely say summer is over.
WFD: a yuuuuuuuge top sirloin steak/london broil (there’ll be plenty of leftovers for steak sammiches in the future), microwave “baked” potatoes – because they were SOLD OUT of single russets (!!) – with the obligatory shit-ton of scallion sour cream, and a FM mater & cuke salad, dressing TBD. Prolly just olive oil & RWV.
Vegging at home after a few nights of shenanigans.
I pray for rain here in mt Shasta. Fuc#@ the fire .
For years I had been exercising on my stationary bicycle, usually for two minutes, three times a week. I exercise at a speed/resistance that gets me to breathe heavily. Then I read in the New York Times (I think) that it’s good to stress both arm and leg muscles at the same time. So I started using hand grips for half of the time (15 seconds of each 30 seconds of bicycling). After a couple of months I had to buy new pants, because my old ones just wouldn’t stay up. I hate clothes shopping, but I bought the pants in NYC, so they cost like a quarter of what it would have been in Switzerland. This year I’ll probably buy a smaller size again. Maybe this would work for you?
Only 6 minutes a week? I like!
Grrr, I have a rowing machine gathering dust in the garage, should start some exercises again. My problem is not that much of fat for the time being but I always have back pain. Stretching do me some good.
